Intersection Bodies and Generalized Cosine Transforms

Abstract

Intersection bodies represent a remarkable class of geometric objects associated with sections of star bodies and invoking Radon transforms, generalized cosine transforms, and the relevant Fourier analysis. The main focus of this article is interrelation between generalized cosine transforms of different kinds in the context of their application to investigation of a certain family of intersection bodies, which we call $\lam$-intersection bodies. The latter include $k$-intersection bodies (in the sense of A. Koldobsky) and unit balls of finite-dimensional subspaces of $L_p$-spaces. In particular, we show that restrictions onto lower dimensional subspaces of the spherical Radon transforms and the generalized cosine transforms preserve their integral-geometric structure. We apply this result to the study of sections of $\lam$-intersection bodies. New characterizations of this class of bodies are obtained and examples are given. We also review some known facts and give them new proofs.

Second quantization and compactness of induced Gaussian quantum Markov semigroups

We characterize compactness of the Hilbert-Schmidt semigroups induced by finite-mode Gaussian quantum Markov semigroups with a faithful normal invariant state. A unitary second-quantization representation for every $ s $-embedding shows that compactness at one positive time, compact resolvent, drift stability, and uniqueness of the normal invariant state are equivalent. These conditions imply immediate trace-class membership for all embeddings. We derive exact trace-norm and Hilbert-Schmidt norm formulas, an embedding-independent trace identity, and the generator spectrum with algebraic multiplicities. Examples show that compactness does not require the existence of a spectral gap and that a spectral gap need not imply compactness when the invariant state is not unique.

New matrix-weighted norm inequalities and extrapolation

In this paper, we propose a new type of matrix-weighted theory and show the corresponding Rubio de Francia extrapolation theorems by means of noncommutative maximal inequalities. We introduce a new matrix $A_p$ condition following Volberg's geometric formulation, and characterize it via a noncommutative Hardy--Littlewood maximal inequality. We then establish a noncommutative analogue of Rubio de Francia's abstract extrapolation theorem for trace-finite von Neumann algebras. The argument extends to $L_\infty(\mathbb R)\bar\otimes M_d(\mathbb C)$ through pointwise matrix operations. This yields the desired extrapolation results for individual operators and maximal families, with applications to matrix-weighted boundedness of Calderón--Zygmund operators.

On the existence of independent inner functions

The existence of independent inner functions is established: there exist inner functions $φ$ and $ψ$, both vanishing at the origin, such that $$ \frac{1}{2π}\int_0^{2π} φ^m(e^{iθ}) \overline{ψ^n(e^{iθ})}\,dθ= 0, \qquad m,n \geq 1. $$ In fact, both $φ$ and $ψ$ can be chosen to be Blaschke products. The proof proceeds by an iterative construction, which suggests a general approach to produce inner functions with a desired joint distribution.
