Injective Morita contexts (revisited)

Abstract

This paper is an exposition of the so-called injective Morita contexts (in which the connecting bimodule morphisms are injective) and Morita $α$contexts (in which the connecting bimodules enjoy some local projectivity in the sense of Zimmermann-Huisgen). Motivated by situations in which only one trace ideal is in action, or the compatibility between the bimodule morphisms is not needed, we introduce the notions of Morita semi-contexts and Morita data, and investigate them. Injective Morita data will be used (with the help of static and adstatic modules) to establish equivalences between some intersecting subcategories related to subcategories of modules that are localized or colocalized by trace ideals of a Morita datum. We end up with applications of Morita $α$-contexts to $\ast$-modules and injective right wide Morita contexts.

A sharp weighted commutator inequality for rank-one matrices

Let $A\in\mathbb{C}^{n\times n}$ be positive definite Hermitian, where $n\ge 2$, and define $\|X\|_A^2=\mathrm{tr}(AX^*X)$ for all $X\in\mathbb{C}^{n\times n}$. We determine the smallest constant $C_A$ for which $$ \|XY-YX\|_{\mathrm{F}}^2 \le C_A\|X\|_A^2\|Y\|_A^2 $$ holds for all rank-one $X,Y\in\mathbb{C}^{n\times n}$, where $\|\cdot\|_{\mathrm{F}}$ denotes the Frobenius norm. The constant depends only on the two smallest eigenvalues of $A$ and is determined by a strictly monotone scalar equation. This answers the sharp-constant question for rank-one matrices formulated by Fang and Cheng. We also characterize all equality pairs.

A Lie Bracket on the Space of (Right) Biderivations of a Lie Algebra

Derivations of a Lie algebra form a Lie algebra under the commutator bracket. Motivated by this property, we investigate Lie algebra structures on spaces of biderivations. We introduce right and left biderivations and show that their spaces admit natural Lie brackets induced by pointwise commutators of derivations. We describe these structures in terms of current Lie algebras and establish a cohomological characterisation of classical biderivations, with applications to semisimple and Heisenberg Lie algebras. We also examine the relation between the right and left brackets for symmetric and skew-symmetric biderivations. Finally, we discuss the pointwise integration of right biderivations into families of Lie group automorphisms.

Root of the generic cubic as a power series in the discriminant

An observation of J-P.~Serre implies that the generic monic cubic polynomial, unique among generic monic polynomials of degree at least two, has a root that is a power series in the discriminant; Serre asked for a formula. We give formulas that work over any field with an absolute value and in every characteristic. Over a complete non-archimedean field we identify the root intrinsically: it is the isolated root, the one farthest from the others. We also answer the next case of Serre's question, computing explicitly the distinguished ramified quadratic factor of the generic monic quartic. The methods combine Hensel's lemma, identities for generalized binomial series, and elementary non-archimedean analysis.
