Parabolic surfaces in hyperbolic space with constant curvature

Abstract

We study parabolic linear Weingarten surfaces in hyperbolic space $\rlopezh^3$. In particular, we classify two family of parabolic surfaces: surfaces with constant Gaussian curvature and surfaces that satisfy the relation $aκ_1+bκ_2=c$, where $κ_i$ are the principal curvatures, and $a,b$ and $c$ are constant.

Height and distance-squared functions on implicit plane curves

We introduce families of Lagrange functions associated with height and distance-squared functions on implicit plane curves. We show that degeneracies of these families characterize geometric properties of the curves, such as inflections and vertices, and give geometric interpretations of the corresponding Lagrange multipliers in terms of contact with lines and circles.

Minimal Surfaces in $\mathbb{R}^4$ with Three Planar Ends II: Symmetry and Nonexistence

In this paper, we study complete minimal surfaces in $\mathbb{R}^4$ with three embedded planar ends parallel to those of the union of the Lagrangian catenoid and the plane containing its waist circle. We prove that no such complete embedded minimal surface of genus $g\geq 2$ with finite total curvature admits at least $4(g+1)$ symmetries. This contrasts sharply with the genus-one case, where highly symmetric examples do exist and are uniquely determined up to scaling and rigid motion.

Dirac eigenvalues and the hyper-hemispherical radius

On a connected compact Riemannian spin manifold with boundary, we prove an upper estimate for the smallest eigenvalue of the Dirac operator under the boundary condition associated with a chirality operator. This upper bound is expressed in terms of the hyper-hemispherical radius. Moreover, the upper bound is realized if and only if the manifold is a hemisphere. As an application, we get a scalar curvature rigidity result for the hemisphere in the case of Lipschitz maps whose differential has a prescribed trace-norm bound. Our estimate extends Bär's result for closed manifolds, where the upper bound is given in terms of hyperspherical radius.
