Beyond Collins and Sivers: further measurements of the target transverse spin-dependent azimuthal asymmetries in semi-inclusive DIS from COMPASS

Abstract

In semi-inclusive DIS of polarized leptons on a transversely polarized target eight azimuthal modulations appear in the cross-section. Within QCD parton model four azimuthal asymmetries can be interpreted at leading order, two of them being the already measured Collins and Sivers asymmetries. The other two leading twist asymmetries, related to different transverse momentum dependent quark distribution functions, and also additional four asymmetries which can be interpreted as twist-three contributions have been measured for the first time at COMPASS, using a 160 GeV/c longitudinally polarized ($P_{beam}\simeq -0.8$) muon beam and a transversely polarized $^6LiD$ target. We present here the preliminary results from the 2002-2004 data.

First determination of the full spin density matrix in $ψ(3686)\toΛ\barΛ$

Using $(448.1\pm2.9)\times10^{6}$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we present the first complete determination of the spin density matrix in $ψ(3686)\toΛ\barΛ$. This provides a unified framework to study both the production dynamics and the quantum correlations of the $Λ\barΛ$ system. From a five-dimensional joint angular analysis, we determine $α_ψ=0.82\pm0.02_{\mathrm{stat.}}\pm0.01_{\mathrm{syst.}}$ and $ΔΦ=(20.6\pm3.6_{\mathrm{stat.}}\pm0.6_{\mathrm{syst.}})^{\circ}$. The non-zero phase implies a transverse polarization of $Λ$, with a maximum value of $P_{y} = 0.074 \pm 0.013_{\mathrm{stat.}} \pm 0.003_{\mathrm{syst.}}$ and a significance of 6.3$σ$. The same framework also gives access to the spin correlations of the baryon pair and enables tests of quantum nonclassicality. The average of the Bell nonlocality measure is determined to be $\bar{m}_{12} = 1.266 \pm 0.078_{\mathrm{stat.}} \pm 0.049_{\mathrm{syst.}}$, yielding a violation of the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt inequality with a significance of 3.7$σ$. These results establish $ψ(3686)\toΛ\barΛ$ as a unique laboratory for unified studies of hadron production dynamics and quantum entanglement in a system of massive baryons.

Prediction of the Geoneutrino Signal at the Jinping Neutrino Experiment

We present refined predictions of the geoneutrino flux for the 500-tonne Jinping Neutrino Experiment (JNE). We construct a local crustal model with a resolution of \(0.2^\circ\times0.2^\circ\) based on the SWChinaCVM-2.0 seismic velocity model and integrate it with CRUST1.0 to establish our reference model. For comparison, we also calculate the geoneutrino flux using ECM1 and CRUST1.0 as standalone global crustal models. Assuming an energy scale of 500~p.e./MeV and an exposure of 500~t$\times$1500~days, we predict the inverse beta decay event spectrum, including both the geoneutrino signal and the reactor antineutrino background. The distinct spectral shapes of the $^{238}$U, $^{232}$Th, and reactor antineutrino components allow their respective contributions to be obtained through spectral fitting. These predictions provide inputs for the JNE data analysis, particularly for extracting the mantle geoneutrino signal and testing competing bulk silicate Earth models.

Construction, commissioning, and performance of the ENUBET demonstrator

A final full-size prototype of the instrumented decay tunnel of ENUBET, referred to as the Demonstrator, was constructed and its performance was tested during the 2022, 2023 and 2024 beam test campaigns at the CERN East Area facility. We demonstrate the full scalability of this specialized longitudinal sampling calorimeter technology, based on iron absorbers and scintillator tiles readout by wavelength-shifting fibers and SiPMs. In addition, we evaluate the channel-by- channel response and the performance in terms of electron energy resolution, linearity, and particle identification capabilities, using charged particle beams with energies up to 5 GeV. A comparison with the predictions of a GEANT4 simulation of the prototype is also presented. The achieved energy resolution ($\sim 17$\% at 1 GeV and 10\% at 3 GeV) fully satisfies the requirements for positron identification. The results meet the requirements for neutrino monitoring through lepton identification in the decay tunnel and validate the ENUBET full simulation. Although some limitations have been identified, they can be readily addressed in future developments.
