Nilpotent bicone and characteristic submodule of a reductive Lie algebra

Abstract

The nilpotent bicone of a finite dimensional complex reductive Lie algebra g is the subset of elements in g x g whose subspace generated by the components is contained in the nilpotent cone of g. The main result of this note is that the nilpotent bicone is a complete intersection. This affirmatively answers a conjecture of Kraft-Wallach concerning the nullcone. In addition, we introduce and study the characteristic submodule of g. The properties of the nilpotent bicone and the characteristic submodule are known to be very important for the understanding of the commuting variety and its ideal of definition. In order to study the nilpotent bicone, we introduce another subvariety, the principal bicone. The nilpotent bicone, as well as the principal bicone, are linked to jet schemes. We study their dimensions using arguments from motivic integration. Namely, we follow methods developed in http://arxiv.org/abs/math/0008002v5 .

Affine highest weight structures on module categories over quiver Hecke algebras

We prove that the category of finitely generated graded modules over the quiver Hecke algebra of arbitrary type admits numerous stratifications in the sense of Kleshchev. A direct consequence is that the full subcategory corresponding to the quantum unipotent subgroup associated with any Weyl group element is an affine highest weight category. Our results significantly generalize earlier works by Kato, Brundan, Kleshchev, McNamara and Muth. The key ingredient is a realization of standard modules via determinantial modules. We utilize the technique of R-matrices to study these standard modules.

On a specialization of Toda eigenfunctions

This paper studies rational functions $\mathfrak{J}_α(q)$, which depend on a positive element $α$ of the root lattice of a root system. These functions arise as Shapovalov pairings of Whittaker vectors in Verma modules of highest weight $-ρ$ for quantum groups and as Hilbert series of Zastava spaces, and are related to the Toda system. They are specializations of multivariate functions more commonly studied in the literature. We investigate the denominator of these rational functions and give an explicit combinatorial formula for the numerator in type A. We also propose a conjectural realization of the numerator as the Poincaré polynomial of a smooth variety in type A.

The truncated symbol of a differential symmetry breaking operator

In this paper, we introduce the truncated symbol of a differential symmetry breaking operator between parabolically induced representations. This generalizes the symbol map, which is defined for the case of abelian nilpotent radicals, to the non-abelian setting. The inverse of the truncated symbol map enables one to develop a recipe for the F-method for any nilpotent radical. As an application, we classify and construct differential intertwining operators on the full flag variety $SL(3,\mathbb{R})/B$ and homomorphisms between Verma modules. It turned out that, surprisingly, Cayley continuants appeared in the coefficients of one of the five families of operators that we constructed. At the end of the paper, factorization identities for the differential operators and homomorphisms are also classified. Binary Krawtchouk polynomials play a key role in the proof.
