Bernstein polynomials, Bergman kernels and toric Kähler varieties

Abstract

It does not seem to have been observed previously that the classical Bernstein polynomials $B_N(f)(x)$ are closely related to the Bergman-Szego kernels $Π_N$ for the Fubini-Study metric on $\CP^1$: $B_N(f)(x)$ is the Berezin symbol of the Toeplitz operator $Π_N f(N^{-1} D_θ)$. The relation suggests a generalization of Bernstein polynomials to any toric Kahler variety and Delzant polytope $P$. When $f$ is smooth, $B_N(f)(x)$ admits a complete asymptotic expansion. Integrating it over $P$ gives a complete asymptotic expansion for Dedekind-Riemann sums of smooth functions over lattice points in $N P$ related to Euler-MacLaurin sum formulae of Guillemin-Sternberg and others.

Oka Geometry of Complex Six-Spheres

Alpöge constructed a complex structure on $S^6$ through a torus fibration with exactly three special fibres. We prove that every member of the associated admissible period family is Oka and that the family projection over each relatively compact parameter disc is an Oka map. The Oka property survives the deletion or simultaneous blow-up of any finite set of distinct points in any member. Blowing up a single point therefore produces an Oka complex manifold diffeomorphic, but not biholomorphic, to $\mathbb{P}^3$. The proofs combine explicit cyclic coverings with analytic extension and the invariance of the Oka property under holomorphic coverings.

Absolute moments of GH distribution

In this work, we focus on deriving the absolute moments of the general ized hyperbolic (GH) distribution via its mean-variance mixture structure. Conditioning on the GIG mixing variable reduces the problem to Gaussian moment calculations and known GIG power moments, avoiding direct integration with Bessel functions. The variance gamma (VG), normal inverse Gaussian (NIG), hyperbolic, Normal, and Student t distributions emerge as natural special or limiting cases of the generalized hyperbolic family. This approach offers a substantially simpler and more transparent derivation, facilitating both implementation and verification.

A Kallin's lemma for polynomials with exponents in a compact convex set and local approximation

Let $S\subset\Bbb R_+^n$ be compact and convex with $0\in S$, and let $\mathcal{P}^S$ be the algebra spanned by monomials with exponents in $\bigcup_{m\ge0}(mS\cap\Bbb N_0^n)$. We define the associated polynomial hull and prove a Kallin lemma for the union of two sets convex with respect to this algebra. A weighted approximation lemma then shows that, under a sector or ray condition, two admissible monomials generate exactly the functions of the unrestricted algebra that are constant on a specified zero fibre. Applications include an exact density criterion for mixed monomials, a transfer principle for relative perturbations, and density and hull computations on stars of totally real discs.
