WMAPping the Inflationary Universe

Abstract

An epoch of accelerated expansion, or inflation, in the early universe solves several cosmological problems. While there are many models of inflation only recently has it become possible to discriminate between some of the models using observations of the cosmic microwave background radiation and large-scale structure. In this talk, we discuss inflation and its observational consequences, and then the status of current cosmological observations and their implications for different models of inflation.

Extra-dimensional Origins of Chemical Potentials at the Cosmological Collider

We study the realization of the chemical potential mechanism in cosmological collider physics in a robust class of inflationary models arising from multiple higher-dimensional gauge fields. The rolling inflaton background corresponds to an electric field in the extra dimension in which charged particles are produced analogously to the Schwinger mechanism, while neutral particles can be produced through non-minimal interactions. We show that particles heavier than the inflationary Hubble scale can be created without Boltzmann suppression in both cases. In particular, charged Kaluza-Klein excitations can be created through minimal gauge interactions. We construct realistic models along these lines consistent with both theoretical and experimental constraints.

GUT-induced collider signatures of the LUX-ZEPLIN event

The recent observation of an event with large recoil energy at LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) has found a possible explanation in terms of the inelastic scattering of a pseudo-Dirac particle, for example, the Higgsino of the MSSM. For pseudo-Dirac dark matter, the mass splitting $δm$ is correlated with the mass of some heavier states. While in the MSSM rough dimensional considerations seem to indicate mass ranges of these heavy particles hopelessly out of reach even at future colliders, we point out that this is not the case in GUT-induced scenarios, with or without supersymmetry. Working in a non-supersymmetric model based on SU(6), we show that the experimentally favored $δm$ implies the presence of a $Z'$ gauge boson with a mass of several TeVs. We derive the predicted $Z'$ signal in the dilepton channel and we confront it with the sensitivity of the HL-LHC and the FCC-$hh$ to $Z'$ resonances. We show that the $Z'$ falls squarely in reach of the discovery potential of both experiments.

Form factors and weak decays of $Λ_b\toΛ_c^*(2595)$ and $Ξ_b\toΞ_c^*(2790)$

In this article, we reanalyze the mass and pole residue of $Λ$-type singly heavy baryons with spin-parity $J^P=1/2^{\pm}$ using two-point QCD sum rules. Then, we investigate the electroweak transition form factors of $Λ_b\toΛ^*_c(2595)$ and $Ξ_b\toΞ^*_c(2790)$ within the framework of three-point QCD sum rules. At the hadron side, all possible couplings of the interpolating currents to hadronic states are taken into account, while at the QCD side, both the perturbative part and vacuum condensate contributions up to dimension-8 are included. Using the obtained form factors, we calculate the decay widths and branching ratios for the semileptonic decays $Λ_b\toΛ^*_c(2595)\ell\barν_\ell$ and $Ξ_b\toΞ^*_c(2790)\ell\barν_\ell$ ($\ell=e,μ$ and $τ$), as well as for the corresponding nonleptonic decays $Λ_b\toΛ^*_c(2595)π[ρ]$, $Λ_b\toΛ^*_c(2595)K[K^*]$, $Ξ_b\toΞ^*_c(2790)π[ρ]$ and $Ξ_b\toΞ^*_c(2790)K[K^*]$. Our estimates for the branching ratios of $Λ_b\toΛ^*_c(2595)\ell\barν_\ell$ are comparable with the experimental data and other theoretical results. These results can provide valuable references for future measurements. In addition, we present predictions for several observables in these semileptonic decays, including the lepton universality ratio, the forward-backward asymmetry $A_{FB}$, and the asymmetry parameter $α$, which can provide useful references for future experiments to test the Standard Model and probe new physics beyond it.
