Equivariant monads and equivariant lifts versus a 2-category of distributive laws

Abstract

Fix a monoidal category C. The 2-category of monads in the 2-category of C-actegories, colax C-equivarant functors, and C-equivariant natural transformations of colax functors, may be recast in terms of pairs consisting of a usual monad and a distributive law between the monad and the action of C, morphisms of monads respecting the distributive law, and transformations of monads satisfying some compatibility with the actions and distributive laws involved. The monads in this picture may be generalized to actions of monoidal categories, and actions of PRO-s in particular. If C is a PRO as well, then in special cases one gets various distributive laws of a given classical type, for example between a comonad and an endofunctor or between a monad and a comonad. The usual pentagons are in general replaced by multigons, and there are also ``mixed'' multigons involving two distinct distributive laws. Beck's bijection between the distributive laws and lifts of one monad to the Eilenberg-Moore category of another monad is here extended to an isomorphism of 2-categories. The lifts of maps of above mentioned pairs are colax C-equivariant. We finish with a short treatment of relative distributive laws between two pseudoalgebra structures which are relative with respect to the distributivity of two pseudomonads involved, what gives a hint toward the generalizations.

Simple-shifted monoidal derived equivalences for tensor categories

In this paper, we investigate monoidal derived equivalences between tensor categories with infinitely many isomorphism classes of simple objects. We introduce the notion of a simple-shifted monoidal derived equivalence and prove that a simple-shifted monoidal derived equivalence gives rise to a tensor equivalence. In addition, we investigate which tensor categories have the property that every monoidal derived equivalence between them is necessarily simple-shifted, and we establish some sufficient conditions for this property. As a corollary, we prove that if a tensor category is monoidally derived equivalent to the finite-dimensional representation category of either the quantized enveloping algebra $U_q(\mathfrak{g})$, the quantized Borel subalgebra $U_q^{\geq 0}(\mathfrak{g})$, or the quantized coordinate ring $\mathcal{O}_{q}(G)$ (for a suitable $q$), it is tensor equivalent to the corresponding category.

Logics vs doctrines, a mirror symmetry

We study the relationship between doctrines, encoding 2-categories of theories in predicate logic, and fragments of geometric logic, defined through Kan injectivity in the 2-category of topoi. After a brief historical account of the notion of doctrine, we propose our working definition. Our main result then establishes a Galois connection between doctrines and subgeometric logics. This connection suggests a mirror symmetry between the world of doctrines and the world of logics, in which constructions and results on either side admit counterparts on the other. We develop this symmetry through constructions of syntactic categories and classifying topoi in both settings, recovering the familiar examples from categorical logic. We prove paired Diaconescu-type theorems and give symmetric universal characterisations of the two closure operators induced by the Galois connection. Finally, we show that passing from a doctrine to its closure induces a reflection between the corresponding 2-categories of algebras, and we relate this reflection to conceptual completeness.

Localizing Restriction Categories

The localizing/separating factorization, which is the analogue, for restriction categories, to the surjective/embedding factorization for topoi, is developed at both the mere restriction category and join restriction category level. The factorization system at both the ordinary and join level is approached using the notion of a density, which is a stable and universal suborder of the restriction order. The main technical results of the paper construct the join localization and establish its basic properties. The paper gives several examples of localizations. In particular, examples of localization on commutative rigs are provided which give a way to construct categories of schemes. The Zariski spectrum and the Pierce spectrum are, in particular, developed.
