Maximum Entropy, the Collective Welfare Principle and the Globalization Process

Abstract

Although both systems analyzed are described through two theories apparently different (quantum mechanics and game theory) it is shown that both are analogous and thus exactly equivalents. The quantum analogue of the replicator dynamics is the von Neumann equation. Quantum mechanics could be used to explain more correctly biological and economical processes. It could even encloses theories like games and evolutionary dynamics. We can take some concepts and definitions from quantum mechanics and physics for the best understanding of the behavior of economics and biology. Also, we could maybe understand nature like a game in where its players compete for a common welfare and the equilibrium of the system that they are members. All the members of our system will play a game in which its maximum payoff is the equilibrium of the system. They act as a whole besides individuals like they obey a rule in where they prefer to work for the welfare of the collective besides the individual welfare. A system where its members are in Nash Equilibrium (or ESS) is exactly equivalent to a system in a maximum entropy state. A system is stable only if it maximizes the welfare of the collective above the welfare of the individual. If it is maximized the welfare of the individual above the welfare of the collective the system gets unstable an eventually collapses. The results of this work shows that the "globalization" process has a behavior exactly equivalent to a system that is tending to a maximum entropy state and predicts the apparition of big common markets and strong common currencies that will find its "equilibrium" by decreasing its number until they get a state characterized by only one common currency and only one common market around the world.

Tempting the Agent: The Economics of Reputation without Persistent Identity in AI Agent Markets

Reputation is a fundamental mechanism through which markets sustain trust when service quality cannot be perfectly assessed ex ante, constituting a form of intertemporal economic capital by attracting future demand. Its effectiveness as a disciplinary mechanism depends not only on past interactions but also on the persistence of the identity to which reputation is attached. When identities can be abandoned and recreated cheaply, reputational capital may itself become an object of opportunistic exploitation. This paper develops a dynamic economic framework to study when reputation is sufficient to discipline autonomous agents. We model reputation as capital attracting future economic activity. At each point, an agent chooses between operating honestly, investing in quality to preserve future gains, or executing a one-shot deviation to extract its reputation's value and restart from a penalized identity. Our analysis relates the temptation to opportunistic behavior to identity-reset costs, reputation persistence, demand sensitivity, and enforcement design, deriving comparative statics on optimal quality provision. Autonomous AI-agent operating on the blockchain are a relevant application: infrastructures such as ERC-8004, ERC-8183, and x402 combine reputation, identity, and payments in permissionless markets. Nonetheless, our framework applies to any environment where reputation generates future business and identities are replaceable.

Amortized Neural Filtering for Calibrated Posteriors in Statistical Arbitrage

Statistical arbitrage trades on an estimate of the state of a residual spread, and conventional practice discards the uncertainty of that estimate. We keep the uncertainty and use it in the trading decision. A Neural Filter Estimator (NFE) is trained on simulated paths of a mean-reverting process whose innovation law is selected by testing candidates against real residuals; once trained, it returns the posterior over the latent state of every spread in a cross-section in one forward pass. Three results follow. On simulated paths with known truth, every practical estimator, ours included, falls in one narrow band of accuracy well below an estimator given full information, so the posterior gains no accuracy over a point estimate; its contribution is a correct account of its own uncertainty. On Korean equities, net of costs, the conventional point estimate forecasts about a thousand basis points per holding period more than it realizes, and the amortized methods cut that gap by a factor of roughly two to eight. Sizing positions from the posterior on the same learned factors as the end-to-end Attention Factor Model matches the Sharpe ratio of those factors under the base rule within the period's noise, at no more risk.

How Well Do LLMs Perform in Peer Review? Evidence from Finance and Accounting

Referees increasingly use large language models (LLMs), while finance and accounting journals disagree about whether to allow it. We ask which part of a referee's job the models can do. GPT-4o, whose training data end before the 2024 conference season, referees the papers presented at the 2024 AFA and NBER finance meetings, and we compare its verdicts with publication in the top-three finance journals over the next two years. Papers the model scores one standard deviation higher are 44\% more likely to be published, net of author reputation. The result is not driven by look-ahead bias, as the model does not recall the outcomes. The information comes from its judgements of correctness and exposition. Its judgements of originality and significance carry none, and a referee guide that stresses importance does not help. The split between correctness and contribution holds for accounting papers and for a newer model, GPT-5. LLMs can check whether research is right, but not whether it matters. The technical check can go to the model, while the judgement of contribution stays with people.
