Gibbs Rapidly Samples Colorings of G(n,d/n)

Abstract

Gibbs sampling also known as Glauber dynamics is a popular technique for sampling high dimensional distributions defined on graphs. Of special interest is the behavior of Gibbs sampling on the Erdős-Rényi random graph G(n,d/n). While the average degree in G(n,d/n) is d(1-o(1)), it contains many nodes of degree of order $\log n / \log \log n$. The existence of nodes of almost logarithmic degrees implies that for many natural distributions defined on G(n,p) such as uniform coloring or the Ising model, the mixing time of Gibbs sampling is at least $n^{1 + Ω(1 / \log \log n)}$. High degree nodes pose a technical challenge in proving polynomial time mixing of the dynamics for many models including coloring. In this work consider sampling q-colorings and show that for every $d < \infty$ there exists $q(d) < \infty$ such that for all $q \geq q(d)$ the mixing time of Gibbs sampling on G(n,d/n) is polynomial in $n$ with high probability. Our results are the first polynomial time mixing results proven for the coloring model on G(n,d/n) for d > 1 where the number of colors does not depend on n. They extend to much more general families of graphs which are sparse in some average sense and to much more general interactions. The results also generalize to the hard-core model at low fugacity and to general models of soft constraints at high temperatures.

Construction and sample path properties of diffusion house-moving between two curves

This study aims to construct a stochastic process called ``diffusion house-moving,'' which is a diffusion bridge conditioned to stay between its starting point and its ending point. To construct this process, statements are prepared on the weak convergence of conditioned diffusion processes, and conditioned diffusion bridges. Moreover, the sample path properties of diffusion house-moving are studied as well.

Graph distance and percolation dimension of three-dimensional Brownian motion

We prove that the minimum Hausdorff dimension of a continuous curve joining $W_0$ to $W_1$ within the range $W([0,1])$ of a three-dimensional Brownian motion is almost surely a deterministic constant $γ_3\in(1,5/3]$. Moreover, we construct continuum many simple curves with pairwise distinct images that attain this minimum. Each curve has box dimension $γ_3$ and admits a parametrization that is $β$-Hölder for every $0<β<1/γ_3$. To identify $γ_3$, we partition Brownian time into $n$ equal intervals and form a graph by joining pairs with intersecting ranges. We show that its endpoint graph distance and diameter have a common deterministic almost sure growth exponent $θ$ and that $γ_3=2θ$. We also establish $n^{pθ+o(1)}$ growth for their $p$-th moments, for every $p>0$.

Rough path lifts of multifractional Brownian motions

We show that multifractional Brownian motions (mBms) can be lifted to geometric rough paths. One of the main ingredients in the proof is a decomposition of mBms via the Lemarié-Meyer orthogonal wavelet basis, which is introduced in the context of multiresolution analysis. As a consequence, we are able to construct solutions to rough differential equations driven by mBms.
