Lifshitz asymptotics for Hamiltonians monotone in the randomness

Abstract

In various aspects of the spectral analysis of random Schroedinger operators monotonicity with respect to the randomness plays a key role. In particular, both the continuity properties and the low energy behaviour of the integrated density of states (IDS) are much better understood if such a monotonicity is present in the model than if not. In this note we present Lifshitz-type bounds on the IDS for two classes of random potentials. One of them is a slight generalisation of a model for which a Lifshitz bound was derived in a recent joint paper with Werner Kirsch [KV]. The second one is a breather type potential which is a sum of characteristic functions of intervals. Although the second model is very simple, it seems that it cannot be treated by the methods of [KV]. The models and the proofs are motivated by well-established methods developed for so called alloy type potentials.

Recursive determinantal framework for testing D-stability

The concept of matrix $D$-stability, introduced in 1958 by Arrow and McManus, is of major importance across a wide variety of applications in economic modeling, ecology, and control systems. However, an exact algebraic characterization of $D$-stability for dimensions $n > 4$ has remained a notoriously intractable open problem for over sixty years. In this paper, we establish a novel, systematic recursive framework that decomposes the structural check of $D$-stability into an analytical tree of parameter-dependent determinants. By applying a recursive delete/zero reduction strategy, we derive exact recurrence relations for the real and imaginary parts of the characteristic polynomial components. These algebraic relations uncover a structured hierarchy of new sufficient conditions for $D$-stability, expressed explicitly in terms of the matrix's principal minors. We show that while general numerical methods face unavoidable conservatism near the topological boundaries of the stable manifold, our deterministic framework provides sharp, absolute certification for low-order boundary matrices.

Inverse spectral results for the magnetic Schrödinger operator in low dimensions

We consider the semiclassical magnetic Schrödinger operator in dimensions one and two. The first result is that an even one dimensional semiclassical potential is spectrally determined by the Schrödinger operator. The second result states that a two dimensional radial magnetic field is spectrally determined by a purely magnetic Schrödinger operator. This extends the earlier work of Guillemin-Wang and answers a conjecture of theirs therein.

Eigenvalues of Hermitian Toeplitz matrices with Fisher--Hartwig symbols

We investigate the eigenvalues of Hermitian Toeplitz matrices generated by the symmetric Fisher-Hartwig symbol $\hat a(z) = (1-z)^{α/2}(1-z^{-1})^{α/2}$ for $α\in (0,2)$. Using Dirichlet-Neumann bracketing of the discrete Laplacian, we establish explicit, non-asymptotic bounds for the individual eigenvalues. As a consequence, we prove that all eigenvalues are simple. We also obtain a two-term approximation for every eigenvalue, with explicit bounds on the remainder, as the size of the matrix tends to infinity. While known results are limited to $α> 1$, we bridge this gap by covering the full range of $α\in (0,2)$. Our approach uses a construction of approximate eigenvectors that has not previously been applied in this setting.
