Direct and inverse theorems in the theory of approximation by the Ritz method

Abstract

For an arbitrary self-adjoint operator $B$ in a Hilbert space $H$, we present direct and inverse theorems establishing the relationship between the degree of smoothness of a vector $x \in H$ with respect to the operator $B$, the rate of convergence to zero of its best approximation by exponential-type entire vectors of the operator $B$, and the $k$-modulus of continuity of the vector $x$ with respect to the operator $B$. The results are used for finding a priori estimates for the Ritz approximate solutions of operator equations in a Hilbert space.

Embeddings of Generalized Weighted Morrey Spaces

We study continuous embeddings from two classes of generalized weighted Morrey spaces into generalized Morrey spaces. The Komori--Shirai-type spaces use the weighted measure of cubes in their normalization, whereas the Samko-type spaces use the Lebesgue measure. We first consider generalized Morrey spaces on bounded domains. In the non-radial setting, we establish embedding results under local radial comparability assumptions on the Morrey functions. As a consequence, we characterize the corresponding embeddings in the radial setting for the full range $0<p_1,p_2<\infty$. We then study embeddings from generalized Komori--Shirai-type weighted Morrey spaces associated with piecewise power weights and general Muckenhoupt weights. For the Samko-type scale, we treat both generalized and classical weighted Morrey spaces, again considering piecewise power weights and general Muckenhoupt weights. Finally, assuming that the weight is comparable to a positive constant on some cube or ball, we show that the continuous embeddings under consideration are not compact.

Operations on $\mathscr{M}\otimes_{\mathcal{A}(U)}\mathrm{Alt}^{\bullet}(U,M)$. Stokes theorem for locally convex linear space valued forms. Divergence theorem for locally convex linear space valued vector fields

We extend to $\mathscr{M}\otimes_{\mathcal{A}(U)}\mathfrak{T}_{\bullet}^{\bullet}(U,M)$ the usual operations defined on $\mathfrak{T}_{\bullet}^{\bullet}(U,M)$, then by employing the properties of the projective tensor product of locally convex spaces, we generalize to $\mathscr{M}\otimes_{\mathcal{A}(U)}\mathrm{Alt}^{\bullet}(U,M)$ the usual wedge product, insertion operator and exterior differential defined on $\mathrm{Alt}^{\bullet}(U,M)$ and establish their properties. Here $M$ is a smooth finite dimensional manifold, $U$ an open submanifold of $M$, $\mathcal{A}(U)$ the ring of smooth maps on $U$, $\mathfrak{T}_{\bullet}^{\bullet}(U,M)$ the $\mathcal{A}(U)$-module of smooth tensor fields of $M$ defined on $U$, $\mathrm{Alt}^{\bullet}(U,M)$ the $\mathcal{A}(U)$-module of smooth alternating tensor fields of $M$ defined on $U$, while $\mathscr{M}$ is a $\mathcal{A}(U)$-module. $\mathscr{M}$ depending by the operation might be either general, or one of the following function spaces: $\mathscr{L}_{c}^{1}(U,G,λ)$, $\mathscr{L}_{loc}^{1}(U,G,λ)$, $\mathcal{B}^{p}(U,G)$ with $G$ a Hausdorff locally convex space. This framenwork permits to construct the divergence of a $G$-valued $p$-times continuously differentiable vector field, to define the weak integral of $G$-valued compactly supported scalarly integrable maximal forms, to associate a $G$-valued measure with any locally integrable $G$-valued form, to establish a Stokes type theorem for $G$-valued compactly supported $p$-times continuously differentiable forms and to obtain a divergence type theorem for $G$-valued $p$-times continously differentiable vector fields.

Sharp Quantitative Stability for the Prékopa-Leindler and Borell-Brascamp-Lieb Inequalities

The Borell-Brascamp-Lieb inequality is a classical extension of the Prékopa-Leindler inequality, which in turn is a functional counterpart of the Brunn-Minkowski inequality. The stability of these inequalities has received significant attention in recent years. Despite substantial progress in the geometric setting, a sharp quantitative stability result for the Prékopa-Leindler inequality has remained elusive, even in the special case of log-concave functions. In this work, we provide a unified and definitive stability framework for these foundational inequalities. By establishing the optimal quantitative stability for the Borell-Brascamp-Lieb inequality in full generality, we resolve the conjectured sharp stability for the Prékopa-Leindler inequality as a particular case. Our approach builds on the recent sharp stability results for the Brunn-Minkowski inequality obtained by the authors.
