Pairing with Unconventional Symmetry around BCS-BEC Crossover: Fermionic Atoms in 2D Optical Lattices to Correlated Electron Systems

Abstract

We study superfluid properties of fermions on a 2D lattice using a finite-range pairing interaction derivable from an extended Hubbard model. We obtain signatures of unconventional pair-symmetry states, $d_{x^2-y^2}$ and extended-s ($s^*$), in the BCS-BEC crossover region. The fermion momentum distribution function, $v_k^2$, the ratio of the Bogoliubov coefficients, $v_k/u_k$, and the Fourier transform of $v_k^2$ are among the properties that are strikingly different for d- and $s^*$ symmetries in the crossover region. Fermionic atoms in 2D optical lattices may provide a way to observe these signatures. We discuss possible experimental ramifications of our results.

Ferroelectric Hysteresis in Superconducting Bilayer Td-MoTe2

Recently, the displacement-field-driven hysteretic switching of superconductivity was reported in ferroelectric bilayer T$_{\textrm{d}}$-MoTe$_2$. Such direct coupling between ferroelectricity and superconductivity offers promising pathways for low-power, non-volatile memory devices, but the underlying coupling mechanism remains poorly understood. Here, we demonstrate that the ferroelectric switching of superconductivity can naturally originate from an intralayer, $p$-$d$ orbital pairing. In bilayer T$_{\textrm{d}}$-MoTe$_2$, the ferroelectric polarization segregates the $p$ and $d$ orbital electrons into distinct layers, thereby suppressing the intralayer, $p$-$d$ orbital pairing. By developing a phenomenological Landau-Ginzburg model, we establish that the hysteretic switching of superconductivity requires $P_{\textrm{r}} < P_{\textrm{c}} < P_{\textrm{s}}$, where $P_{\textrm{c}}$ is the critical pair-breaking polarization and $P_{\textrm{r}}$ ($P_{\textrm{s}}$) is the remanent (saturated) polarization. Crucially, our scenario of intralayer, $p$-$d$ orbital pairing indicates that the bilayer T$_{\textrm{d}}$-MoTe$_2$ features an anisotropic momentum-dependent pairing gap and can transition into a pair density wave by tuning the chemical potential, which provides clear pathways for experimental verification.

Raman scattering in cuprate oxychlorides high-temperature superconductors single-crystals

We investigate the Raman response of sodium-doped cuprate oxychloride Na$\_x$Ca$\_{2-x}$CuO$\_2$Cl$\_2$ high-temperature superconductors across their entire phase diagram, from the antiferromagnetic to the superconducting region. In addition to the expected Raman-active phonon modes, we detect several additional modes that can be interpreted as being excited via a resonance process enabled by strong electron--phonon coupling. To verify the resonance effect, the Raman response at different incident photon energies was measured. At high energies, there is a well-defined $B\_{1g}$ mode in the antiferromagnetic phase, which can be interpreted as a bimagnon We follow its temperature and doping dependence, providing information on the multimagnon excitation in these cuprates, which can be theoretically linked to the exchange interaction.

Spectroscopic Evidence for Nontrivial Band Topology in Superconducting FeTe/MnTe Heterostructure

FeTe has long been regarded as a nonsuperconducting antiferromagnetic metal with trivial band topology, but recent advances in stoichiometry control have begun to challenge this picture. Here we use higher-order epitaxy on zinc-blende MnTe to stabilize near-stoichiometric FeTe with strongly suppressed interstitial Fe and a superconducting transition onset near 13 K. Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy reveals markedly enhanced quasiparticle coherence, well-defined Fe-derived hole bands, and a nearly two-dimensional Dirac-cone-like state near the Fermi level. First-principles calculations identify an inversion between odd- and even-parity bands, yielding nontrivial $Z_2$ topology and a Dirac surface state consistent with experiment. These results elucidate the intrinsic electronic structure of stoichiometric superconducting FeTe and provide evidence for nontrivial band topology, positioning FeTe/MnTe as a promising platform for exploring topological superconductivity.
