An Orthogonal Test of the $L$-functions Ratios Conjecture, II

Abstract

Recently Conrey, Farmer, and Zirnbauer developed the L-functions Ratios conjecture, which gives a recipe that predicts a wealth of statistics, from moments to spacings between adjacent zeros and values of L-functions. The problem with this method is that several of its steps involve ignoring error terms of size comparable to the main term; amazingly, the errors seem to cancel and the resulting prediction is expected to be accurate up to square-root cancellation. We prove the accuracy of the Ratios Conjecture's prediction for the 1-level density of families of cuspidal newforms of constant sign (up to square-root agreement for support in (-1,1), and up to a power savings in (-2,2)), and discuss the arithmetic significance of the lower order terms. This is the most involved test of the Ratios Conjecture's predictions to date, as it is known that the error terms dropped in some of the steps do not cancel, but rather contribute a main term! Specifically, these are the non-diagonal terms in the Petersson formula, which lead to a Bessel-Kloosterman sum which contributes only when the support of the Fourier transform of the test function exceeds (-1, 1).

Constrained PSLQ Search for Machin-like Identities Achieving Record-Low Lehmer Measures

Machin-like arctangent relations are classical tools for computing $π$, with efficiency quantified by the Lehmer measure ($λ$). We present a framework for discovering low-measure relations by coupling the PSLQ integer-relation algorithm with number-theoretic filters derived from the algebraic structure of Gaussian integers, making large scale search tractable. Our search yields new 5 and 6 term relations with record-low Lehmer measures ($λ=1.4572, λ=1.3291$). We also demonstrate how discovered relations can serve as a basis for generating new, longer formulae through algorithmic extensions. This combined approach of a constrained PSLQ search and algorithmic extension provides a robust method for future explorations.

Counting integral points in homogeneous spaces over function fields

We establish the asymptotic formula for the number of integral points in non-compact symmetric homogeneous spaces of semi-simple simply connected algebraic groups over global function fields, given by the sum of the products of local densities twisted by suitable Brauer elements. As an application, we count the number of representations of a scalar by a sum of at least three squares.

A parallelogram height inequality for Drinfeld modules

We prove an inequality relating the Taguchi heights of four Drinfeld modules arranged in a ``parallelogram of isogenies''. This inequality is the analogue for Drinfeld modules of the parallelogram inequality of Rémond (2022) for abelian varieties over number fields and of Griffon--Le Fourn--Pazuki (2026) for abelian varieties over function fields. We also prove a similar inequality for the local graded height at a finite place.
