Gluonic profile of the static baryon at finite temperature

Abstract

The gluon flux distribution of a static three quark system has been revealed at finite temperature in the pure SU(3) Yang-Mills theory. An action density operator is correlated with three Polyakov loops representing the baryonic state at a temperatures near the end of the QCD plateau, T/T_c = 0.8, and another just before the deconfinement point, T/T_c = 0.9. The flux distributions at short distance separations between the quarks display an action-density profile consistent with a filled Delta shape iso-surface. However the Delta-shaped action iso-surface distributions are found to persist even at large inter-quark separations for both temperatures. The action density distribution in the quark plane exhibits a nonuniform pattern for all quark separations considered. This result contrasts the well-known Y-shaped uniform action density gluonic-flux profile obtained using the Wilson-loop as a quark source operator at zero temperature. We systematically measure and compare the main aspects of the profile of the flux distribution at the two considered temperature scales for three sets of isosceles triangle quark configurations. The radii, amplitudes and rate of change of the width of the flux distribution are found to reverse their behavior as the temperature increase from the end of the QCD plateau region towards the deconfinement point. Remarkably, we find the mean square width of the flux distribution shrinks and localizes for quark separations larger than 1.0 fm at T/T_c = 0.8 which results in an identifiable Y-shaped radius profile. Near the deconfinement point, the action-density delocalizes and the width broadens linearly at large quark separations.

A novel view of the flavor-singlet spectrum from multi-flavor QCD on the lattice

SU(3) gauge theories with increasing number of light fermions are the templates of strongly interacting sectors and studying their low-energy dynamics and spectrum is important, both for understanding the strong dynamics of QCD itself, but also for discovering viable UV completions of beyond the Standard Model physics. In order to contrast many-flavors strongly interacting theories with QCD on a quantitative footing, we use Lattice Field Theory simulations. We focus on the study of the flavor-singlet spectrum in the scalar and pseudoscalar channels: this is an interesting probe of the dynamics of the strongly interacting sector, as reminded by the QCD case with the $f_0(500)$ ($σ$) and $η^\prime$ mesons. The hierarchy of the spectrum of a strongly coupled new gauge sector of the Standard Model defines the potential reach of future colliders for new physics discoveries. In addition to a novel hierarchy with light scalars, introducing many light flavors at fixed number of colors can influence the dynamics of the lightest flavor-singlet pseudoscalar. We present a complete lattice study of both these flavor-singlet channels on high-statistics gauge ensembles generated by the LatKMI collaboration with 4, 8, and 12 copies of light mass-degenerate fermions. We also present other hadron masses on the lightest ensemble for $N_f=8$ generated by the LatKMI collaboration and discuss the chiral extrapolation of the spectrum in this particular theory. We contrast the results to $N_f=4$ simulations and previous results of $N_f=12$ simulations.

RI/SMOM renormalization for lattice QCD: bilinear and three-quark operators

We review perturbative matching between the regularization-invariant symmetric MOM (RI/SMOM) and MS schemes at the symmetric subtraction point, which is relevant for lattice QCD simulations. For bilinear operators we summarize three-loop conversion factors for local quark currents and for the n=2,3 twist-two moments of structure functions. For three-quark operators we summarize two-loop RI/SMOM matching for N=0 baryonic operators and three-loop anomalous dimensions together with two-loop matching for the N=1 Mellin moment, enabling improved lattice studies of baryon distribution amplitudes. All numerical results quoted here are given in Landau gauge.

The soft-gluon limit of the Landau gauge ghost-gluon vertex: results for pure Yang-Mills SU(3) theory from lattice simulations

This work reports on the computation of the ghost-gluon vertex for the pure Yang-Mills SU(3) gauge group, using lattice simulations and the Landau gauge. The simulations access only one of the form factors that describes the vertex. The form factor is estimated using large statistical ensembles of gauge configurations, with two different lattice spacings and two different volumes to check for finite size effects. Moreover, the calculation shows the importance of using lattice perturbation theory, instead of its continuum version, to correct for the breaking of rotational symmetry. The measured bare lattice form factors are compatible, within errors, for all the ensembles. The form factor has a maximum at momentum $\sim 1$ GeV, is suppressed in the infrared and is compatible with a constant behaviour at high momenta, in good agreement with the corresponding lattice estimations for the SU(2) gauge group.
