Right tail expansion of Tracy-Widom beta laws

Abstract

Using loop equations, we compute the large deviation function of the maximum eigenvalue to the right of the spectrum in the Gaussian beta matrix ensembles, to all orders in 1/N. We then give a physical derivation of the all order asymptotic expansion of the right tail Tracy-Widom beta laws, for all positive beta, by studying the double scaling limit.

A modified Fermi Golden Rule at threshold for 3D magnetic Schrödinger operators

In this paper we consider three-dimensional Schrödinger operators with a simple threshold eigenvalue. We show, under certain assumptions, that when a small magnetic field is introduced, this eigenvalue turns into a resonance in the time-dependent sense. We find the leading term in the asymptotic expansion of the imaginary part of the resonance and discuss the principal differences with respect to resonances induced by weak electric fields obtained previously in the literature.

Heun Spectrum, Threshold Hierarchy, and One-Loop Quantum Mass of the Christ--Lee Kink

We study the fluctuation spectrum and renormalized one-loop quantum mass of the Christ--Lee kink over the full positive range of its deformation parameter. The fluctuation equation is reduced exactly to general-Heun form, yielding parity-resolved continuum solutions and implicit quantization conditions for the discrete spectrum. At the first nontrivial continuum crossing, the odd Heun solution truncates to a polynomial, giving the exact threshold \(ε_1=\sqrt{\sqrt{3}-1}\). For small deformation, the kink separates into two widely spaced \(ϕ^6\)-like interfaces and the fluctuation operator develops a long central cavity. This geometry explains the logarithmic growth of the bound-state count, the asymptotically geometric hierarchy of continuum-threshold crossings, and the emergence of a soft relative-translation mode. In the opposite limit, the spectrum approaches the \(ϕ^4\) Pöschl--Teller problem, while its even threshold resonance becomes a shallow bound state at finite deformation. The one-loop correction is evaluated in a fixed vacuum-normal-ordering prescription using a common-regulator spectral trace and independently through an imaginary-frequency functional determinant. The two calculations agree throughout representative finite deformations and reproduce the exact \(ϕ^4\) limit. In the small-deformation regime, the extended central region produces a logarithmically enhanced negative quantum correction. These results provide a unified analytic and numerical description of how the spectral reorganization of the Christ--Lee kink controls its semiclassical quantum mass.

Concurrent enforcement of polyconvexity and true-stress-true-strain monotonicity in incompressible isotropic hyperelasticity: application to neural network constitutive models

The design of physics-augmented neural networks (PANNs) for the purposes of constitutive modeling has received considerable attention as of late for a variety of material behaviors. Here, we revisit the classical framework of isotropic incompressible hyperelasticity in light of recent advances in the study of constitutive inequalities. We show that polyconvexity implies true-stress-true-strain monotonicity for a large class of incompressible strain-energy functions. The resulting elastic law obeys the physically reasonable Legendre-Hadamard (or ellipticity) condition as well as the notion of increasing stress with increasing strain. These results then inform the architecture of four distinct PANNs which are subsequently calibrated to three different sets of experimental data each. We show that different PANN parametrizations - satisfying the same constitutive constraints a priori - have varying approximation power for the description of material behavior. Moreover, even when distinct parametrizations perform comparatively well within the calibration regime, they show pronounced differences in extrapolation. This observation motivates a critical discussion about the predictive power of PANNs which also has implications for the modeling of more complex material behavior by virtue of neural networks.
