Torsors and ternary Moufang loops arising in projective geometry

Abstract

We give an interpretation of the construction of torsors from preceding work (Bertram, Kinyon: Associative Geometries. I, J. Lie Theory 20) in terms of classical projective geometry. For the Desarguesian case, this leads to a reformulation of certain results from lot.cit., whereas for the Moufang case the result is new. But even in the Desarguesian case it sheds new light on the relation between the lattice structure and the algebraic structures of a projective space.

Robust quasi-isometric embeddings inapproximable by Anosov representations

Let $\mathbb{K}=\mathbb{R}$ or $\mathbb{C}$. For all but finitely many $m\in \mathbb{N}$, we exhibit the first examples of non-locally rigid, Zariski dense, robust quasi-isometric embeddings of hyperbolic groups in $\mathsf{SL}_m(\mathbb{K})$ which are not limits of Anosov representations. As a consequence, we show that higher rank analogues of Sullivan's structural stabilty theorem and of the density theorem for Kleinian groups fail for Anosov representations in $\mathsf{SL}_m(\mathbb{C}), m\geq 30$.

Non vanishing of the fourth bounded cohomology of free groups and codimension 2 subspaces

In this note we prove that the fouth bounded cohomology of non-abelian free groups with trivial real coefficients is non-zero. In order to prove this, we establish a splitting argument whose simplest form is as follows: Let $M$ denote an $n$-manifold of non-zero simplicial volume and $S$ a codimension two submanifold of $M$, then one can conclude that the $n$-th bounded cohomology of the fundamental group of $M \setminus S$ is non-zero. While in this note this approach is only used for degree $4$. There is no reason to expect that this approach and its generalizations is not suitable to prove the non-vanishing of higher degrees or the bounded cohomology of different groups as well.

The conjugacy problem in Out(Fm) when the polynomial restrictions are non-growing

We prove that the conjugacy problem in Out(Fm) is solvable for the class of outer automorphisms whose restrictions to their polynomial subgroups are of finite order. To do this, we first investigate the structure of suspensions of free groups by automorphisms whose outer class is of finite order. We then apply a reduction of our main result to certain problems on groups of this form.
