Partial-Wave Analysis of the Centrally Produced π+π- System in pp Reactions at COMPASS

Abstract

COMPASS is a fixed-target experiment at CERN SPS which investigates the structure and spectroscopy of hadrons. During nine weeks in 2008 and 2009, a 190 GeV/c proton beam impinging on a liquid hydrogen target was used in order to study the production of exotic mesons and glueball candidates at central rapidities. As no bias on the production mechanism was introduced by the trigger system, the contribution from diffractive dissociation of the beam proton poses a challenge. We select a centrally produced sample by kinematic cuts and introduce a model to describe the data in terms of partial waves. Preliminary fits are presented, which are consistent with results from previous experiments. Particular attention is paid to the ambiguities in the amplitude analysis of the two-pseudoscalar final state.

Study of the proccess $e^+e^-\to π^+π^-π^0π^0η$ in the c.m. energy range 1.6--2.0 GeV with the CMD-3 detector

The cross section of the process $e^+e^- \to π^+π^-π^0π^0η$ has been measured using a data sample with the integrated luminosity of 372 pb$^{-1}$ collected with the CMD-3 detector at the VEPP-2000 $e^+e^-$ collider. 6300$\pm$145 signal events have been selected in the center-of-mass energy range 1.6--2.0 GeV. The total systematic uncertainty of the cross section is about 10\%. The production dynamics is dominated by the $ω(782)π^0η$ final state with a possible small contribution of the $a_0(980)$ resonance in the $π^0η$ combination. We also observe a presence of the $ρ(770)^{\pm}$ resonance signal in the $π^{\pm}π^0$ invariant mass distribution.

Measurement of the $W$-boson production cross-sections in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV in the forward region

A precision measurement of the $W$-boson production cross-section is performed using the $W \to μν$ decay channel, based on a sample of proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.1 $fb^{-1}$. The cross-section is measured for muons with transverse momentum between 25 and 55 GeV and pseudorapidity between 2.0 and 4.5. The integrated production cross-sections of $W$ bosons are measured to be $$ \begin{array}{lcl} σ_{W^+ \to μ^+ν} &=& 1754.2 \pm 1.5 \pm 11.9 \pm 35.1\text{ pb} \\ σ_{W^- \to μ^-\barν} &=& 1178.1 \pm 1.3 \pm 9.7 \pm 23.6\text{ pb} \end{array} $$ where uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the luminosity determination, respectively. Results are in good agreement with theoretical predictions at next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics. This measurement is significantly more precise than previous results in this kinematic regime.

Measurement of charged-particle production in $\sqrt{s_\text{NN}}=9.62$ TeV proton-oxygen collisions as a probe of cosmic-ray air showers with the ATLAS detector

This Letter presents a measurement of prompt charged-particle production in proton-oxygen interactions at $\sqrt{s_\text{NN}}=9.62$ TeV center-of-mass energy with the ATLAS detector, corresponding to 634 $μ$b$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity. A total of 246 million selected events have at least one track with transverse momentum $p_\text{T}> 500$ MeV and pseudorapidity $|η|<2.5$. The measured fiducial proton-oxygen cross section is $σ_\text{fid.}^{p\text{O}}=396 \pm 6~(\text{exp.}) \pm 9~(\text{lumi.})~\text{mb}$ and the extrapolated inelastic proton-air cross section is $σ^{p+\text{air}}_\text{inel.} = 406 \pm 6~(\text{exp.}) \pm 9~(\text{lumi.}) \pm 28~(\text{th.})~\text{mb}$. Measurements of charged-particle multiplicity, $p_\text{T}$, and $η$ distributions are an order-of-magnitude more precise than differences between hadronic-interaction models. These results enable improved modeling of cosmic-ray air showers, which is important for astroparticle physics.
