Time-dependent Hartree-Fock calculations for multinucleon transfer processes in $^{40,48}$Ca+$^{124}$Sn, $^{40}$Ca+$^{208}$Pb, and $^{58}$Ni+$^{208}$Pb reactions

Abstract

Multinucleon transfer processes in heavy-ion reactions at energies slightly above the Coulomb barrier are investigated in a fully microscopic framework of the time-dependent Hartree-Fock (TDHF) theory. Transfer probabilities are calculated from the TDHF wave function after collision using the projection operator method which has recently been proposed by Simenel (C. Simenel, Phys. Rev. Lett. 105, 192701 (2010)). We show results of the TDHF calculations for transfer cross sections of the reactions of $^{40,48}$Ca+$^{124}$Sn at $E_{lab}=$ 170, 174 MeV, $^{40}$Ca+$^{208}$Pb at $E_{lab}=$ 235, 249 MeV, and $^{58}$Ni+$^{208}$Pb at $E_{lab}=$ 328.4 MeV, for which measurements are available. We find the transfer processes show different behaviors depending on the $N/Z$ ratios of the projectile and the target, and the product of the charge numbers, $Z_P Z_T$. When the projectile and the target have different $N/Z$ ratios, fast transfer processes of a few nucleons towards the charge equilibrium of the initial system occur in reactions at large impact parameters. As the impact parameter decreases, a neck formation is responsible for the transfer. A number of nucleons are transferred by the neck breaking when two nuclei dissociate, leading to transfers of protons and neutrons in the same direction. Comparing cross sections by theory and measurements, we find the TDHF theory describes the transfer cross sections of a few nucleons reasonably. As the number of transferred nucleons increases, the agreement becomes less accurate. The TDHF calculation overestimates transfer cross sections accompanying a large number of neutrons when more than one proton are transferred. Comparing our results with those by other theories, we find the TDHF calculations give qualitatively similar results to those of direct reaction models such as GRAZING and Complex WKB.

\textit{Ab initio} no-core shell model calculations of the electric dipole polarizabilities and photoabsorption cross sections of the $A=3$ mirror nuclei

We present \textit{ab initio} no-core shell-model calculations of the electric dipole ($E1$) polarizabilities and photoabsorption cross sections of the $A=3$ mirror nuclei $^3$H and $^3$He using the Daejeon16 nucleon-nucleon interaction. The polarizabilities are obtained by direct summation over discretized continuum states in the harmonic-oscillator basis, while the same spectral information is used to reconstruct the cross sections. This work provides the first extension of the approach from the spin-zero $^4$He to nonzero-spin nuclei by calculating the $1/2^-$ and $3/2^-$ final-state contributions separately and demonstrating their model-space convergence. In both nuclei, the $3/2^-$ contribution is approximately twice the $1/2^-$ contribution. After quantifying finite-basis and excitation-energy-truncation uncertainties, we identify a clear difference between the mirror polarizabilities, induced entirely by the Coulomb interaction because the Daejeon16 interaction is isospin symmetric. The reconstructed cross sections remain stable under variations of the inversion parameters of the Lorentz integral transform and exhibit the same angular-momentum hierarchy. These results extend the discretized-continuum approach to integrated and energy-resolved $E1$ observables in nonzero-spin nuclei with multiple final-state angular momenta.

Anisotropic spin hydrodynamics in a magnetized medium: entropy-current formulation and minimal linear modes

We formulate anisotropic relativistic spin hydrodynamics in a parity-even magnetized medium using an Israel--Stewart entropy-current construction. Treating the magnetic field at leading order in the gradient expansion reduces the rotational symmetry to $SO(2)$ and separates spin susceptibilities and dissipative transport into longitudinal, transverse, and mixed channels. A restricted quadratic entropy current yields transient equations for the retained dissipative stresses and spin fluxes. We analyze a minimal linear closure around an unpolarized homogeneous equilibrium, retaining dynamical magnetic-flux perturbations but no explicit spin-magnetization coupling; spin and magnetic fluctuations mix through the fluid variables. Infrared coefficient equations and ultraviolet characteristic expansions organize the magnetosonic and Alfvén-like spectra together with spectator spin-flux poles. The first-order truncation exhibits unstable boost-sector poles and superlinear large-wave-number branches, interpreted as diagnostics of the truncated equations rather than microscopic dispersion predictions. For the baseline parameters, finite relaxation times yield asymptotically linear propagation branches and finite relaxation poles, with no growing modes found on the sampled grid. The characteristic speeds depend nonmonotonically on spin transport and provide necessary light-cone diagnostics, without establishing general stability or strong hyperbolicity.

Can Coulomb breakup of $N=Z$ clustered nuclei constrain capture cross sections? Analyzing the $α(d,γ){}^{6}\mathrm{Li}$ case

In nuclear astrophysics, it is fundamental to measure the cross section of radiative-capture reactions involving charged particles at low energy. However, this endeavor is difficult. Coulomb breakup of nuclei on heavy targets has been proposed as an indirect method to infer the low-energy cross sections, because this reaction corresponds to the time reversed process of radiative capture. Two Coulomb breakup experiments aiming to infer the $α(d,γ){}^{6}\mathrm{Li}$ radiative-capture cross section have been performed at 26 MeV/nucleon and 150 MeV/nucleon. Within a fully dynamical reaction model, we report here on a new theoretical analysis of these reactions. Our analysis indicates that the breakup of ${}^6\mathrm{Li}$ onto ${}^{208}\mathrm{Pb}$ is nuclear dominated at forward angles because Coulomb breakup is suppressed due to the $N=Z$ cluster structure of ${}^6\mathrm{Li}$. Our analysis also suggests that the reaction is characterized by marked Coulomb-nuclear interferences. Moreover, we find that higher-order effects considerably increase the breakup cross section at low energies. Consequently, extracting radiative capture cross sections from the breakup reaction data in this case is extremely challenging. We suggest that the forward Coulomb breakup suppression is a general feature of collision processes involving $N=Z$ clustered nuclei. Our findings underscore the importance of advancing alternative indirect methods for nuclear reactions in astrophysics such as electron-induced dissociation.
