Optical rogue waves in the generalized inhomogeneous higher-order nonlinear Schrodinger equation with modulating coefficients

Abstract

The higher-order dispersive and nonlinear effects (alias {\it the perturbation terms}) like the third-order dispersion, the self-steepening, and the self-frequency shift play important roles in the study of the ultra-short optical pulse propagation. We consider optical rogue wave solutions and interactions for the generalized higher-order nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation with space- and time-modulated parameters. A proper transformation is presented to reduce the generalized higher-order NLS equation to the integrable Hirota equation with constant coefficients. This transformation allows us to relate certain class of exact solutions of the generalized higher-order NLS equation to the variety of solutions of the integrable Hirota equation. In particular, we illustrate the approach in terms of two lowest-order rational solutions of the Hirota equation as seeding functions to generate rogue wave solutions localized in time that have complicated evolution in space with or without the differential gain or loss term. We simply analyze the physical mechanisms of the obtained optical rogue waves on the basis of these constraints. Finally, The stability of the obtained rogue-wave solutions is addressed numerically. The obtained rogue wave solutions may raise the possibility of relative experiments and potential applications in nonlinear optics and other fields of nonlinear science as Bose-Einstein condensates and ocean

Multivariable Painleve'-II equation: connection formulas for arbitrary system size

Connection formulas for the asymptotic solutions of a system of n> 1 coupled Painleve'-II equations with symmetry-breaking parameters are written explicitly. An asymptotically exact WKB approach to these formulas relies on the quantum-mechanical independent crossing approximation for an explicitly time-dependent Schroedinger equation.

Several results on the almost good reduction property to the $q$-discrete Painlevé equations over the field of $p$-adic numbers

We report on the recent results in the theory of discrete integrable equations reduced modulo a prime number $p$ based on the previous results. This article mainly concerns the $q$-discrete analogues of the Painlevé equations. We first give a quick review of the idea of `almost good reduction', which is a property that most integrable systems over a finite field $F_p$ possess when reduced from those defined over the field of $p$-adic numbers $Q_p$. This idea has been introduced in our previous papers and the discrete and q-discrete Painlevé II equations have been proved to have `almost good reduction', which can be interpreted as an arithmetic analogue of the singularity confinement test. In this article we prove that this property holds for several other $q$-discrete Painlevé equations. The theory of Diophantine integrability is reviewed and its relation to the integrability detection by the algebraic entropy is discussed.

Stationary reduction method based on nonisospectral deformation of orthogonal polynomials, and discrete Painlevé-type equations

In this work, we propose a new approach called ``stationary reduction method based on nonisospectral deformation of orthogonal polynomials" for deriving discrete Painlevé-type (d-P-type) equations. We apply this approach to (bi)orthogonal polynomials satisfying ordinary orthogonality, $(1,m)$-biorthogonality, generalized Laurent biorthogonality, Cauchy biorthogonality and partial-skew orthogonality. As a result, several seemingly novel classes of high order d-P-type equations or integrable difference systems with potential relations with new d-P-type equations, along with their particular solutions and respective Lax pairs, are derived. Notably, the derived integrable difference system related to the Cauchy biorthogonality is a stationary reduction of a nonisospectral generalization involving the first two flows of the Toda hierarchy of CKP type. Additionally, the integrable difference system related to the partial-skew orthogonality is associated with the nonisospectral Toda hierarchy of BKP type, and it is found to admit a solution expressed in terms of Pfaffians.
