On multiple frequency power density measurements II. The full Maxwell's equations

Abstract

We shall give conditions on the illuminations $φ_{i}$ such that the solutions to Maxwell's equations \[ \left\{ \begin{array}{l} {\rm curl} E^{i}=iωμH^{i}\qquad\text{in }Ω,\\ {\rm curl} H^{i}=-i(ω\varepsilon+iσ)E^{i}\qquad\text{in }Ω,\\ E^{i}\timesν=φ_{i}\timesν\qquad\text{on }\partialΩ, \end{array}\right. \] satisfy certain non-zero qualitative properties inside the domain $Ω$, provided that a finite number of frequencies $ω$ are chosen in a fixed range. The illuminations are explicitly constructed. This theory finds applications in several hybrid imaging problems, where unknown parameters have to be imaged from internal measurements. Some of these examples are discussed. This paper naturally extends a previous work of the author [Inverse Problems 29 (2013) 115007], where the Helmholtz equation was studied.

Vanishing viscosity limit of the 2D stationary Navier-Stokes equations outside a rotating disc and its application

We justify the vanishing-viscosity limit for 2D stationary Navier-Stokes flows in the exterior of a rotating disc. The boundary data are a small perturbation of a nonzero rigid rotation, and the velocity vanishes at spatial infinity. Guided by Prandtl-Batchelor theory, we select the limiting Euler flow $\frac{A}{r}e_θ$, where $A$ is fixed by the Batchelor-Wood formula. In the regime of small viscosity, we construct stationary Navier-Stokes solutions through a higher-order matched asymptotic expansion and prove the validity of the corresponding boundary-layer expansion. We also identify the far-field asymptotics of the Navier-Stokes solution. This gives a partial resolution of Problem 11b in Yudovich [Eleven great problems of mathematical hydrodynamics, Mosc. Math. J. 3 (2003), no. 2, 711--737]. As an application, for fixed viscosity we prove the existence of stationary solutions in the same exterior domain under a large perturbation of a fast rigid rotation at the boundary.

Classification of global solutions to the singular equation $-Δu=f(X)\cdot u^{-γ}$ in a Lipschitz epigraphical cone

We construct and classify all global solutions to the singular equation $$-Δu=f(X)\cdot u^{-γ}$$ supported in a general Lipschitz epigraphical cone, where $f(X)$ is a locally Dini continuous function with $0<λ\leq f(X)\leqΛ$. The existence and non-existence of a global solution is solely determined by the exponent $γ$ of the equation and the ``frequency" of the cone. Moreover, in order to classify all global solutions, we introduce several new methods. First, we use the local data to estimate the global growth rate, which in turn establishes the boundedness of the ``asymptotic slope" of the global solution. Second, by establishing a nonlinear variant of Kemper's boundary Harnack principle, we classify all global solutions through an ``oscillation reduction" argument on the ``asymptotic slope".

Mean field games with Hormander diffusions

In this paper, we study a class of degenerate mean field games (MFG, for short) systems with Hormander diffusion, in which the typical agent can move only along admissible direction. We establish the well-posedness of the MFG systems in intrinsic Holder spaces, which describes the Nash equilibria for a differential game with infinitely many small players. The analysis builds upon degenerate parabolic equations defined on the tours induced by Hormander vector fields without any group structure, for which we develop a global regularity theory for the first time in this general setting. A central difficulty arises from the anisotropic geometry of the state space, which induces non-commutativity and inhomogeneity of the underlying vector fields. Instead of the classical fundamental solution framework, we present an alternative method to derive a priori Schauder estimates for general Hormander degenerate parabolic equations via Campanato spaces.
