Heights and the Specialization Map for Families of Elliptic Curves over P^n

Abstract

For $n\geq 2$, let $K=\overline{\mathbb{Q}}(\mathbb{P}^n)=\overline{\mathbb{Q}}(T_1, \ldots, T_n)$. Let $E/K$ be the elliptic curve defined by a minimal Weiestrass equation $y^2=x^3+Ax+B$, with $A,B \in \overline{\mathbb{Q}}[T_1, \ldots, T_n]$. There's a canonical height $\hat{h}_{E}$ on $E(K)$ induced by the divisor $(O)$, where $O$ is the zero element of $E(K)$. On the other hand, for each smooth hypersurface $Γ$ in $\mathbb{P}^n$ such that the reduction mod $Γ$ of $E$, $E_Γ / \overline{\mathbb{Q}}(Γ)$ is an elliptic curve with the zero element $O_Γ$, there is also a canonical height $\hat{h}_{E_Γ}$ on $E_Γ(\overline{\mathbb{Q}}(Γ))$ that is induced by $ (O_Γ)$. We prove that for any $P \in E(K)$, the equality $\hat{h}_{E_Γ}(P_Γ)/ °Γ=\hat{h}_{E}(P)$ holds for almost all hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{P}^n$. As a consequence, we show that for infinitely many $t \in \mathbb{P}^n(\overline{\mathbb{Q}})$, the specialization map $σ_t : E(K) \rightarrow E_t(\overline{\mathbb{Q}})$ is injective.

G3-Criteria and Applications

The G3-property of a subvariety was introduced by Hironaka-Matsumura, and plays an important role for deducing connectedness and extension results. Unfortunately, it's a rather elusive notion, which is not always easy to establish. Most of the existing work is concentrated on subvarieties of homogeneous varieties. The first goal of this article is to show that mobility assumptions on the subvariety, considered in works of Badescu, Chow, Debarre, Voisin, yield a certain partial positivity property, slightly stronger than G3, previously introduced by the author. Second, we apply the result to prove that, in numerous situations, the splitting of the normal bundle of a smooth two-codimensional subvariety implies that it is a complete intersection.

Nodal degeneration of chiral algebras I: Global structure and gluing formula

We define a natural extension of a universal factorization algebra $\mathcal{A}$ to families of stable punctured curves, by integrating over all semistable modifications. We prove that the resulting sheaf of factorization homology satisfies a natural gluing formula, by tensoring over a certain derived associative algebra $\mathfrak{Z}_{\mathcal{A}}^0$, generalizing the Verlinde formula for gluing of conformal blocks.
