Improving integrability via absolute summability: a general version of Diestel's Theorem

Abstract

A classical result by J. Diestel establishes that the composition of a summing operator with a (strongly measurable) Pettis integrable function gives a Bochner integrable function. In this paper we show that a much more general result is possible regarding the improvement of the integrability of vector valued functions by the summability of the operator. After proving a general result, we center our attention in the particular case given by the $(p,σ)$-absolutely continuous operators, that allows to prove a lot of special results on integration improvement for selected cases of classical Banach spaces ---including $C(K)$, $L^p$ and Hilbert spaces--- and operators ---$p$-summing, $(q,p)$-summing and $p$-approximable operators---.

A General Proof of the Fong-Tsui Conjecture

We present a general proof of the Fong-Tsui conjecture for bounded operators on arbitrary complex Hilbert spaces. Specifically, we show that $|T|\leq|\operatorname{Re}T|$ implies that $T$ is self-adjoint. The argument combines a positive inverse of a Sylvester map with a spectral cutoff determined by the norm of the positive defect $|\operatorname{Re}T|-|T|$. A local vanishing lemma reduces the analysis to the classical squared self-adjointness criterion, while positivity of the defect yields a global norm contradiction. We formulate the argument as an abstract four-operator vanishing principle, without compactness, trace, or separability assumptions. We also establish a quantitative stability estimate: if $|T|\leq|\operatorname{Re}T|+\varepsilon I$ and $0\leq\varepsilon\leq|T|$, then $|\operatorname{Im}T|\leq6|T|^{7/8}\varepsilon^{1/8}$. The constant is independent of the dimension, and the exponent is not claimed to be optimal. Large language models (LLMs) were used to assist with proof development, algebraic calculations, numerical checks, and auditing of the arguments.

A positive version of Miljutin's Theorem

In this paper we provide a positive version of Miljutin's theorem. Namely, we show that for any uncountable compact metric spaces $K$ and $L$ there exists a positive isomorphism $T:C(K)\longrightarrow C(L)$. Moreover, the inverse of $T$ is a regular operator, and $T$ may be chosen so that $\|T\|_\mathrm{r} \cdot \|T^{-1}\|_\mathrm{r} \leq 9+6\sqrt3$. The method also gives positive versions of classical nonmetrizable results for Miljutin and Dugundji compacta. In particular, if $G$ and $H$ are infinite compact groups of the same weight, then $C(G)$ and $C(H)$ are positively and regularly isomorphic with the same uniform quantitative estimate.
