Analytic extension of Jorge-Meeks type maximal surfaces in Lorentz-Minkowski 3-space

Abstract

The Jorge-Meeks $n$-noid ($n\ge 2$) is a complete minimal surface of genus zero with $n$ catenoidal ends in the Euclidean 3-space $\boldsymbol{R}^3$, which has $(2π/n)$-rotation symmetry with respect to its axis. In this paper, we show that the corresponding maximal surface $f_n$ in Lorentz-Minkowski 3-space $\boldsymbol{R}^3_1$ has an analytic extension $\tilde f_n$ as a properly embedded zero mean curvature surface. The extension changes type into a time-like (minimal) surface.

Ricci-pinched 3-Manifolds with second-fundamental-form-pinched Boundary

We prove a boundary analogue of the rigidity theorem for Ricci-pinched three-manifolds under a superquadratic volume-growth assumption. More precisely, we show that a complete connected three-manifold with convex boundary, pinched Ricci tensor, and pinched second fundamental form is isometric to the Euclidean half-space. The proof is potential-theoretic. We construct and study mixed Dirichlet--Neumann $p$-capacitary potentials, establish monotonicity formulas for their free-boundary level sets, and use a weak Gauss--Bonnet formula adapted to this setting.

The Mass-Angular Momentum Inequality for Multiple Black Holes

This is the second in a series of two papers to settle the conjectured mass-angular momentum inequality for multiple black holes. More precisely, we show that for a complete, simply connected, maximal initial data set for the Einstein equations with multiple ends that are either asymptotically flat or asymptotically cylindrical, the ADM mass of any asymptotically flat end admits a lower bound given by the square root of total angular momentum, under the assumption of nonnegative energy density and axisymmetry. Moreover, equality is achieved in this mass lower bound only for a constant time slice of an extreme Kerr spacetime. The proof is based on a novel flow of singular harmonic maps with hyperbolic plane target, under which the renormalized harmonic map energy is monotonically nonincreasing. Relevant properties of the flow are achieved through a refined asymptotic analysis of solutions to the harmonic map equations and their linearization.
