Concurrent Decentralized Channel Allocation and Access Point Selection using Multi-Armed Bandits in multi BSS WLANs

Abstract

Enterprise Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) consist of multiple Access Points (APs) covering a given area. Finding a suitable network configuration able to maximize the performance of enterprise WLANs is a challenging task given the complex dependencies between APs and stations. Recently, in wireless networking, the use of reinforcement learning techniques has emerged as an effective solution to efficiently explore the impact of different network configurations in the system performance, identifying those that provide better performance. In this paper, we study if Multi-Armed Bandits (MABs) are able to offer a feasible solution to the decentralized channel allocation and AP selection problems in Enterprise WLAN scenarios. To do so, we empower APs and stations with agents that, by means of implementing the Thompson sampling algorithm, explore and learn which is the best channel to use, and which is the best AP to associate, respectively. Our evaluation is performed over randomly generated scenarios, which enclose different network topologies and traffic loads. The presented results show that the proposed adaptive framework using MABs outperform the static approach (i.e., using always the initial default configuration, usually random) regardless of the network density and the traffic requirements. Moreover, we show that the use of the proposed framework reduces the performance variability between different scenarios. Results also show that we achieve the same performance (or better) than static strategies with less APs for the same number of stations. Finally, special attention is placed on how the agents interact. Even if the agents operate in a completely independent manner, their decisions have interrelated effects, as they take actions over the same set of channel resources.

WaveHiTS: Wavelet-Enhanced Hierarchical Time Series Modeling for Wind Direction Nowcasting in Eastern Inner Mongolia

Wind direction forecasting plays a crucial role in optimizing wind energy production, but faces significant challenges due to the circular nature of directional data, error accumulation in multi-step forecasting, and complex meteorological interactions. This paper presents a novel model, WaveHiTS, which integrates wavelet transform with Neural Hierarchical Interpolation for Time Series to address these challenges. Our approach decomposes wind direction into U-V components, applies wavelet transform to capture multi-scale frequency patterns, and utilizes a hierarchical structure to model temporal dependencies at multiple scales, effectively mitigating error propagation. Experiments conducted on real-world meteorological data from Inner Mongolia, China demonstrate that WaveHiTS significantly outperforms deep learning models (RNN, LSTM, GRU), transformer-based approaches (TFT, Informer, iTransformer), and hybrid models (EMD-LSTM). The proposed model achieves RMSE values of approximately 19.2°-19.4° compared to 56°-64° for deep learning recurrent models, maintaining consistent accuracy across all forecasting steps up to 60 minutes ahead. Moreover, WaveHiTS demonstrates superior robustness with vector correlation coefficients (VCC) of 0.985-0.987 and hit rates of 88.5%-90.1%, substantially outperforming baseline models. Ablation studies confirm that each component-wavelet transform, hierarchical structure, and U-V decomposition-contributes meaningfully to overall performance. These improvements in wind direction nowcasting have significant implications for enhancing wind turbine yaw control efficiency and grid integration of wind energy.

GT-Space: Enhancing Heterogeneous Collaborative Perception with Ground Truth Feature Space

In autonomous driving, multi-agent collaborative perception enhances sensing capabilities by enabling agents to share perceptual data. A key challenge lies in handling {\em heterogeneous} features from agents equipped with different sensing modalities or model architectures, which complicates data fusion. Existing approaches often require retraining encoders or designing interpreter modules for pairwise feature alignment, but these solutions are not scalable in practice. To address this, we propose {\em GT-Space}, a flexible and scalable collaborative perception framework for heterogeneous agents. GT-Space constructs a common feature space from ground-truth labels, providing a unified reference for feature alignment. With this shared space, agents only need a single adapter module to project their features, eliminating the need for pairwise interactions with other agents. Furthermore, we design a fusion network trained with contrastive losses across diverse modality combinations. Extensive experiments on simulation datasets (OPV2V and V2XSet) and a real-world dataset (RCooper) demonstrate that GT-Space consistently outperforms baselines in detection accuracy while delivering robust performance. Our code will be released at https://github.com/KingScar/GT-Space.

Human-in-the-Loop Meta Bayesian Optimization for Fusion Energy and Scientific Applications

Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF) holds transformative promise for sustainable, near-limitless clean energy, yet remains constrained by prohibitively high costs and limited experimental opportunities. This paper presents Human-in-the-Loop Meta Bayesian Optimization (HL-MBO), a framework that integrates expert knowledge with few-shot, uncertainty-aware machine learning to accelerate discovery in data-scarce, high-stakes scientific domains. HL-MBO introduces a meta-learned surrogate model with an expert-informed acquisition function to recommend candidate experiments. To foster trust and enable informed decisions, HL-MBO also provides interpretable explanations of its suggestions. We show HL-MBO outperforms current BO methods on ICF energy yield optimization, as well as benchmarks in molecular optimization and critical temperature maximization for superconducting materials.
