Counterexamples to the Zassenhaus conjecture on simple modular Lie algebras

Abstract

We provide an infinite family of counterexamples to the conjecture of Zassenhaus on the solvability of the outer derivation algebra of a simple modular Lie algebra. In fact, we show that the simple modular Lie algebras $H(2;(1,n))^{(2)}$ of dimension $3^{n+1}-2$ in characteristic $p=3$ do not have a solvable outer derivation algebra for all $n\ge 1$. For $n=1$ this recovers the known counterexample of $\mathfrak{psl}_3(F)$. We show that the outer derivation algebra of $H(2;(1,n))^{(2)}$ is isomorphic to $(\mathfrak{sl}_2(F)\ltimes V(2))\oplus F^{n-1}$, where $V(2)$ is the natural representation of $\mathfrak{sl}_2(F)$. We also study other known simple Lie algebras in characteristic three, but they do not yield a new counterexample.

Polynomial Identities and Codimensions of Certain Three-Dimensional Metabelian Non-Lie Leibniz Algebras

Over an arbitrary field, we conduct a comprehensive study of the polynomial identities and codimensions of two- and three-dimensional metabelian non-Lie Leibniz algebras. In addition, we compute the images of multihomogeneous polynomials on two-dimensional Leibniz algebras and, as a consequence, prove that the image of any multilinear polynomial evaluated on such algebras is always a vector space. Our analysis includes the three nontrivial isomorphism classes in dimension two and the ten isomorphism classes in dimension three, all of which are metabelian. In particular, we determine finite bases for their corresponding $T$-ideals and provide explicit bases for the associated relatively free graded algebras.

Integer-valued polynomials over structural matrix rings

We study integer-valued polynomials and null polynomials over structural matrix rings, that is, rings whose elements are matrices in which an entry may be nonzero only when its row index precedes its column index in a fixed preorder. We prove that the integer-valued polynomials over a structural matrix ring with entries in an integral domain form a ring, and that the null polynomials over a structural matrix ring with entries in an arbitrary commutative ring form a two-sided ideal. In both settings, we give a characterization of the corresponding polynomials with matrix coefficients in terms of scalar-coefficient polynomials. These results extend corresponding theorems for full matrix rings and upper triangular matrix rings.
