Adaptive Digital Twin for UAV-Assisted Integrated Sensing, Communication, and Computation Networks

Abstract

In this paper, we study a digital twin (DT)-empowered integrated sensing, communication, and computation network. Specifically, the users perform radar sensing and computation offloading on the same spectrum, while unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are deployed to provide edge computing service. We first formulate a multi-objective optimization problem to minimize the beampattern performance of multi-input multi-output (MIMO) radars and the computation offloading energy consumption simultaneously. Then, we explore the prediction capability of DT to provide intelligent offloading decision, where the DT estimation deviation is considered. To track this challenge, we reformulate the original problem as a multi-agent Markov decision process and design a multi-agent proximal policy optimization (MAPPO) framework to achieve a flexible learning policy. Furthermore, the Beta-policy and attention mechanism are used to improve the training performance. Numerical results show that the proposed method is able to balance the performance tradeoff between sensing and computation functions, while reducing the energy consumption compared with the existing studies.

Integrated Sensing and Communication System Based on Radio Frequency Resonance Beam

To address the complex beam control in traditional multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, researchers have proposed adaptive beam alignment using retro-directive antenna (RDA) arrays. This approach creates echo resonance between the base station (BS) and user equipment (UE), significantly reducing computational load. However, conventional resonant beam systems (RBS) suffer from echo interference due to the shared uplink and downlink frequency. Therefore, this paper proposes an innovative resonance beam-based integrated sensing and communication (RB-ISAC) system designed for efficient passive sensing and bidirectional communication. In this system, the UE operates passively, with both the BS and UE utilizing a phase conjugation and frequency conversion structure to decouple uplink and downlink carrier frequencies, ensuring continuous electromagnetic wave oscillation between the two ends. Effective compensation for signal propagation loss enables resonance after multiple oscillations. At this point, the beam's field forms a low-diffraction-loss, highly focused pattern, automatically aligning the transmitter and receiver. This enables high-precision passive positioning alongside robust uplink and downlink communication. Simulation results demonstrate the proposed system achieves resonance within multiple iterations, supporting uplink and downlink communication up to 5 m, and enabling passive direction of arrival (DOA) estimation with an error under 2$^\circ$ .

Imaging-Communication Trade-off in VLEO ISAC-SAR Using CP-OFDM

This paper investigates the imaging--communication trade-off in very-low-Earth-orbit (VLEO) integrated sensing and communication synthetic aperture radar (ISAC-SAR) using cyclic-prefix orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (CP-OFDM) as the shared waveform. We develop a unified analytical framework that jointly accounts for random communication payloads, range-dependent CP deficit across the swath, and slow-time-varying platform Doppler over the synthetic aperture. The resulting signal model separates the coherently retained component from inter-carrier interference (ICI) and inter-symbol interference (ISI) through common subcarrier-coupling coefficients. By propagating these effects through receive filtering, range compression, and azimuth focusing, we derive image-domain statistics for matched- and reciprocal-filter receivers. Based on the derived statistics, an effective noise-equivalent sigma zero (ENESZ) is formulated to characterize data-dependent sidelobes, ICI/ISI, and noise enhancement on a common backscatter-equivalent scale. The analysis reveals that the CP duration acts as a system-level design parameter bringing scalable trade-off. Increasing the CP improves coherent retention and suppresses range-dependent interference, but simultaneously reduces coherent processing gain and communication payload throughput. Accordingly, the sufficient-CP duration does not generally coincide with the imaging-optimal CP duration. End-to-end simulations for a representative VLEO scenario validate the derived image-domain statistics and demonstrate the resulting trade-off between ENESZ and communication throughput as a function of CP duration.

Semantic CSI Feedback for Beam Selection: When Task-Aware Embeddings from Sparse Pilots Outperform Full-Bandwidth Reconstruction

Classical CSI feedback in FDD massive MIMO transmits a compressed reconstruction of the channel, optimizing fidelity to the original signal regardless of the downstream task. We propose a semantic communication perspective: instead of reconstructing the channel, the UE transmits a learned \emph{semantic embedding} optimized end-to-end for beam selection at the gNB. Comparing reconstruction-oriented feedback (CsiNet) against task-aware semantic feedback across two input domains and three observation scenarios, we show that a semantic embedding of just $d=8$ real values from only 43 NR CSI-RS pilots in the angular-delay domain achieves the highest beam prediction accuracy, outperforming every method with access to the full 512-subcarrier channel. The key insight is that beam-relevant information is intrinsically low-dimensional: the semantic encoder learns to discard reconstruction-irrelevant structure and retain only a compact representation that is relevant to beam selection, realizing the core principle of semantic communication: transmit the intent, not the signal.
