On the Aw-Rascle-Zhang traffic models with nonlocal look-ahead interactions

Abstract

We present a new family of second-order traffic flow models, extending the Aw-Rascle-Zhang (ARZ) model to incorporate nonlocal interactions. Our model includes a specific nonlocal Arrhenius-type look-ahead slowdown factor. We establish both local and global well-posedness theories for these nonlocal ARZ models. In contrast to the local ARZ model, where generic smooth initial data typically lead to finite-time shock formation, we show that our nonlocal ARZ model exhibits global regularity for a class of smooth subcritical initial data. Our result highlights the potential of nonlocal interactions to mitigate shock formations in second-order traffic flow models. Our analytical approach relies on investigating phase plane dynamics. We introduce a novel comparison principle based on a mediant inequality to effectively handle the nonlocal information inherent in our model.

Validity of Prandtl Expansion for Steady Compressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier Flows

Assume no-slip boundary conditions for the velocity field and either insulated or Dirichlet boundary conditions for the temperature field in a steady compressible fluid. In the inviscid limit $\v \rightarrow 0$, we develop a mathematical framework for the uniform-in-$\v$ remainder estimate for the linear steady compressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier equations around a Prandtl layer profile with both velocity and thermal layers, which leads to the validity of the Prandtl layer expansion.

Long time behaviour of Mean Field Games with fractional diffusion

In this paper we study the long time behaviour of mean field games systems with fractional diffusion, modeling the case that the individual dynamics of the players is driven by independent jump processes and controlled through the drift term, while being confined by an external field in order to guarantee ergodicity. In the case of globally Lipschitz, locally uniformly convex Hamiltonian, and weakly coupled costs satisfying the Lasry-Lions monotonicity condition, we prove that there is a unique solution $(u_T,m_T)$ to the mean field game problem in $(0,T)$ and we show that, if $T$ is sufficiently large, $(u_T,m_T)$ satisfies the so-called turnpike property, namely it is exponentially close to the (unique) stationary ergodic state for any proportionally long intermediate time.

Steady Prandtl Layer for Compressible Fluids

Despite its importance, there have been few PDE results to investigate Prandtl layers for compressible fluids, in which the thermal boundary layer for the temperature field interacts with the classical velocity Prandtl boundary layer in a strong nonlinear fashion. We establish local-in-$x$ well-posedness of Prandtl layers for steady compressible fluids and construct Prandtl layer expansion in strong Sobolev norms, a foundation for the validity of Prandtl layer theory \cite{Guo-Wang}. Our method is based on a combination of the recent quotient estimate for the velocity field and an introduction of a pseudo entropy estimate for the temperature field.
