Completely Li--Yorke chaotic homeomorphisms with positive entropy

Abstract

It is an open problem whether a homeomorphism on a compact metric space satisfying that each proper pair is either positively or negatively Li--Yorke, called completely Li--Yorke chaotic, can have positive entropy. In the present paper, an affirmative answer to this question is given. In fact, for each homeomorphism $T$ with positive entropy such that each proper pair is not two-sided asymptotic, a completely Li--Yorke chaotic homeomorphism with positive entropy associated with the given homeomorphism can be constructed.

Generalized entropy of measure-induced maps

A classical result by E. Glasner and B. Weiss states that the topological entropy of a map $f$ is zero if and only if the topological entropy of its measure-induced map $f_*$ is zero, where $f_*$ is defined as the push-forward of a measure. In this work, we use generalized entropy to distinguish the complexity of these maps and prove that the measure-induced map is much more complex than the original map. Moreover, we introduce the generalized mean dimension, an invariant that is useful for distinguishing dynamical systems with zero mean dimension, including those with the small-boundary property, and we show a relationship between this new invariant and generalized entropy.

The endpoint problem for $\varepsilon$-hypercyclicity

For a fixed $0<\varepsilon<1$, F. Bayart asked in 2024 whether there exists an operator $T$ such that, for every $0<δ<1$, $T$ is $δ$-hypercyclic if and only if $δ\in[\varepsilon,1)$. We answer this question affirmatively by constructing a weighted backward shift on $\ell_2(\mathbb N_0,\ell_2(\mathbb N_0))$ with this property.

Minimal sets for torus homeomorphisms with an irrational circle factor

We study minimal sets of torus homeomorphisms admitting an irrational circle factor whose fibres are thin essential annular continua. For totally irrational pseudo-rotations and homeomorphisms in a nontrivial Dehn-twist class, we prove uniqueness of the minimal set when the fibres are Jordan curves on a residual set of base parameters. The same conclusion holds if the fibre cores are Jordan curves, or if the fibres are locally connected, on a nonmeagre set of parameters. The residual hypothesis cannot be replaced by a full-measure hypothesis, even under area preservation and topological transitivity. For every totally irrational rotation vector, we construct such a map with Jordan-curve fibres almost everywhere and uncountably many pairwise disjoint uniquely ergodic minimal Cantor sets. We also construct examples in every nontrivial Dehn-twist class, with prescribed irrational vertical rotation number and bounded deviations. In both families, the Jordan-curve parameters form a meagre set of full Lebesgue measure.
