Mathematical physics of dilute Bose gases

Abstract

We discuss recent progress in the mathematical analysis of dilute Bose gases. We review results in one to three dimensions, but the focus will be on three dimensions. In all dimensions we have a two term asymptotic expansion of the ground state energy density by an expression that depends only on the scattering length of the potential. In dimension three this is the celebrated Lee-Huang-Yang formula. In dimensions two and three the dilute limit is a weakly interacting regime whereas in dimension one it is rather strongly interacting. We sketch briefly the mathematical difficulties and review some remaining open problems in the field.

Symmetry Regularization of 1D Generalized Coulomb Problems

For the 1D generalized Coulomb problems--a family that includes the quantizations of the 1D generalized Kepler problems of Ma-Meng-Xiao \cite{MMX2025}--we construct two explicit unitary intertwiners $\hatι_{\pm}$, the quantum analogs of the classical symmetry regularization maps $ι_{\pm}$ of \cite{MMX2025}, that unitarily identify each $H_κ$-energy-definite portion of the Hilbert space $L^{2}(\mathbb{R}_{>0},\mathrm{d}q)$ with a unitary lowest-weight representation of $\widetilde{\mathrm{SL}}(2,\mathbb{R})$.

Analytic Integration of the Lambert W Cosmic Fluid Model H(z) Formula

The Lambert $W$ (LW) model for the cosmic fluid equation of state was proposed by S. Saha and K. Bamba in 2019-2020. A recent (early 2026) paper by Dubey, et al, carries out a new fit of the LW model to observational data, in order to estimate the model's parameters. That paper exhibits a formula for the logarithm of the relative Hubble factor at redshift $z$, $\ln(H(z)/H_0)$, which is based upon a numerical integration. That integral can be evaluated analytically, and we present the details in this working paper. The resulting analytic expression for $H(z)/H_0$ may be convenient for exploration of the LW model. We present two approximation formulas for the Lambert $W$ function, highly accurate for redshifts $z$ between 0 and 3, which may be useful for researchers who do not have ready access to a function library with the Lambert $W$ function. We also present a simplified proof of the analytic formula for another logarithmic integral which may be useful for exploring some variants of the LW model.

Stratification of the space of density matrices via invariant theory and Uhlmann's connection

The space of $n\times n$ density matrices is the full state space of an $n$-level quantum system. While it has been asserted in the literature on quantum information theory that decomposing this state space into equirank pieces yields a Whitney stratification, rigorous proofs have remained absent. Using methods from invariant theory, this work provides a proof that the rank decomposition of the matrix algebra constitutes a (b)-regular stratification in the sense of Whitney. Furthermore, we demonstrate how the Uhlmann connection - which describes the adiabatic holonomy of mixed states and reduces to the Berry connection on pure states - can be geometrically treated as a stratified connection on a stratified vector bundle. Finally, our appendix provides a self-contained exposition of stratified fiber bundles and the new concept of stratified connections, which may be of independent interest.
