The Tambara-Yamagami calculus and finite semigroups

Abstract

Tambara-Yamagami categories are among the simplest fusion categories beyond the pointed case: one adds a single noninvertible simple object to a finite group of invertible ones. We ask what remains of their (diagrammatic) calculus when the group is replaced by a finite semigroup, and develop the resulting (diagrammatic) calculus.

On the homological conjectures for Artin algebras

We prove that the Auslander--Reiten conjecture, the generalised Nakayama conjecture, the Nakayama conjecture, and each of the two Tachikawa conjectures are globally equivalent for Artin algebras over any fixed commutative artinian ring. For finite dimensional algebras over a fixed field, we also prove that the derived invariance of the Nakayama conjecture is equivalent to the truth of the Nakayama conjecture for all such algebras, answering a question raised by Chen and Xi.

Kostka numbers and Fourier duality

We relate the Fourier transform of perverse sheaves smooth along the coordinate hyperplane configuration in a complex vector space to the Deligne-Lusztig duality of unipotent representations of a general linear group over a finite field. A similar relation is established for arbitrary finite Coxeter groups.

A Course on Lie algebras and Chevalley groups

These are expanded notes from graduate courses about Lie algebras and Chevalley groups held at the University of Stuttgart. In the 1950s Chevalley showed how linear groups over arbitrary fields could be obtained~ -- ~by a uniform procedure~ -- ~from the simple Lie algebras over $\C$ occurring in the Cartan--Killing classification. Together with subsequent variations, Chevalley's work had a profound and long-lasting impact on group theory and Lie theory in general. Classical, and widely used references are the lectures notes by Steinberg (1967) and the monograph by Carter (1972). Our aim here is to present a self-contained introduction to the theory of Chevalley groups, based on recent simplifications arising from Lusztig's fundamental theory of ``canonical bases''. A further feature of our text is that we explicitly incorporate algorithmic methods in our treatment, both for the handling of substantial examples and regarding some aspects of the general theory. Eventually, this may turn into a book project.
