Para families of orthogonal polynomials

Abstract

The para-Krawtchouk polynomials arose in the search for spin chains with perfect state transfer; the para-Racah, $q$-para-Racah and para-Bannai--Ito polynomials followed, obtained through singular truncations of families of the Askey scheme and used in turn to design spin chains. All are orthogonal on bi-lattices; the prefix goes back to the para-Krawtchouk case, whose spectrum is that of the parabose oscillator. The representations that these polynomials provide of the corresponding algebras --- Hahn, Racah, $q$-Racah, Bannai--Ito and complementary Bannai--Ito --- are shown to be reducible. Each decomposes into a direct sum of two irreducible modules of the same algebra, one attached to each of the two interlaced sub-lattices, and the parameters of the submodules are given. The para polynomials are thereby expressed in terms of the classical polynomials that the submodules carry, and the pairing $λ_n=λ_{N-n}$ of their eigenvalues is accounted for; the three features of the bi-lattice setting on which the reduction rests are identified. The properties of the para families are then presented in a unified way in the light of this decomposition, together with the constructions through which these families arise and the settings in which they have been put to use.

Elementary commutator method for the Dirac equation with long-range perturbations

We present direct and elementary commutator techniques for the Dirac equation with long-range electric and mass perturbations. The main results are absence of generalized eigenfunctions and locally uniform resolvent estimates, both in terms of the optimal Besov-type spaces. With an additional massless assumption, we also obtain an algebraic radiation condition of projection type. For their proofs, following the scheme of Ito-Skibsted, we adopt, along with various weight functions, the generator of radial translations as conjugate operator, and avoid any of advanced functional analysis, pseudodifferential calculus, or even reduction to the Schrödinger equation. The results of the paper would serve as a foundation for the stationary scattering theory of the Dirac operator.

$\mathcal{P}(Φ)_2$ Theory from many-body quantum Gibbs states

We derive the $\mathcal{P}(Φ)_2$ measure on the two-dimensional unit torus as the rigorous limit of many-body quantum Gibbs states. In particular, the quantum model corresponding to the $Φ^{2p}_2$ measure is formulated in the grand-canonical ensemble with a general symmetric $p$-body interaction potential which is not required to have a factorized form. Unlike in the $Φ^4_2$ case investigated by Fröhlich--Knowles--Schlein--Sohinger in \cite{FKSS25}, in the treatment of higher-order interactions, Wick renormalization generates a full hierarchy of lower-order interactions which we organize systematically using a graphical formalism. One key ingredient of our analysis is a logarithmic stability estimate for both the nonlocal Hartree functional and the many-body Hamiltonian that is uniform in the interaction range, allowing us to use the positivity of the leading $p$-body interaction to control all lower-order terms generated by the Wick counterterms.

Dynamical classical-field limit of Bosonic Gibbs states: Renormalized Hartree NLS correlations in 2D and 3D

In this paper we derive the time-dependent correlation functions of the renormalized Hartree NLS equation on the torus $\mathbb T^d$, $d=2,3$, from the corresponding bosonic many-body Gibbs dynamics. In contrast with the 1D problem studied earlier by Fröhlich, Knowles, Schlein and Sohinger, in higher dimensions the scaled quantum particle number is not uniformly bounded and the relevant classical fields require Wick renormalization. Our proof combines convergence of the quantum generators in weighted Hilbert spaces with uniqueness for positive solutions of the limiting Liouville equation that are dominated by the Gibbs measure.
