Spectra and nonleptonic decays of multiply heavy baryons in a finite-size quark-diquark model

Abstract

We investigate the mass spectra and two-body nonleptonic weak decays of ground-state doubly and triply heavy baryons in a nonrelativistic quark-diquark model. To account for the finite size of the diquark, we generalize the convoluted quark-diquark interaction to unequal-mass diquarks using mass-weighted constituent coordinates and distinct pairwise spin-spin couplings. The resulting Schr{ö}dinger equations provide the baryon masses and wave functions used consistently in the decay calculation. The predicted masses differ from existing lattice QCD results by less than $1.5\%$, and our calculated mass of $Ω_{cc}^{+}$ is consistent with recent LHCb observations. The calculated hyperfine splittings are systematically slightly smaller than the lattice values, indicating a residual uncertainty in the spin-dependent interaction. Within the factorization approximation, we evaluate the $c\to s$ and $b\to c$ transitions with pion or kaon emission. At leading nonrelativistic order, the vector contribution vanishes for the $3/2^+\to1/2^+$ transitions, while both vector and axial contributions enter the $3/2^+\to3/2^+$ channels. The $b\to c$ spatial overlaps are substantially smaller than their $c\to s$ counterparts. Together with the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa hierarchy, this reduces the corresponding $b \to c$ width by approximately two orders of magnitude. In the $3/2^+\to1/2^+$ charm transitions, the leading $|\bm{k}|^3$ dependence enhances the suppression of kaon emission. In bottom transitions with a larger energy release, the smaller relative phase-space difference brings the ratios close to the scaling determined by the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa elements and meson decay constants. These results provide benchmark estimates for future studies of multiply heavy baryons and quantify the role of recoil dynamics within the finite-size quark-diquark framework.

Axion couplings in Orbifold GUTs

We consider the coupling of axions to gauge bosons in higher-dimensional Grand Unified Theories (GUT) inspired by string theory constructions with D-branes on orbifold singularities, the so-called orbifold GUTs. Due to their topological properties, axion couplings to gauge bosons are independent of the gauge symmetry reduction mechanism and the background geometry -- they only depend on the embedding of the SM into the UV gauge group. There are two kinds of axions in this class of theories: axions coming from gauge fields in the bulk and axions localised on the boundaries. The axion-photon coupling for the bulk axions coincide with the results from 4-dimensional GUTs, where axions which couple to photons necessarily couple also to QCD. The brane-localised axions can couple to photons independently of the QCD coupling, but if gauge couplings are approximately unified, the axions get large masses from unsuppressed instantons on the boundaries. The brane-localised axions can couple to photons independently of the QCD coupling, but if gauge couplings are approximately unified, they have a much more severe quality problem. We show that in generic UV completions they are expected to get large masses from instantons on the boundaries. This means that the ratio $g_{aγγ}/m_a$ is below (or equal to) the QCD axion value for all axions in orbifold GUTs, as is the case for unified theories in 4d.

Neutrino texture-zeros after JUNO's first results: Implications for long-baseline neutrino experiments

The recent results from the JUNO reactor neutrino experiment have significantly improved our knowledge of the solar mixing angle $θ_{12}$ and the solar mass splitting $Δm^2_{21}$. We study the impact of these improved estimates on the validity of texture-zeros in the light neutrino mass matrix by assuming neutrinos to be of Majorana nature. Considering a diagonal charged lepton basis, we revisit the previously allowed one-zero and two-zero textures and check their validity by using updated neutrino data from JUNO. While JUNO data rule out one previously allowed two-zero texture, they also make predictions for other neutrino parameters more precise. We finally study the prospects of probing the currently allowed texture-zeros and their predicted correlations among neutrino parameters at the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE). The inclusion of JUNO and reactor experiments strengthens DUNE's ability to constrain the allowed parameter space of both one-zero and two-zero textures. We also observe that DUNE benefits substantially from the complementarity with the T2HK experiment.

Entanglement metrics for a $B$-meson system

The $B$-factory experiments operate at electron-positron colliders with beam energies precisely tuned for optimal $B^{0}\text{-}\bar{B}^{0}$ meson pair production. These $B^{0}\text{-}\bar{B}^{0}$ meson pairs are entangled and offer a unique opportunity to explore quantum correlations and examine the foundational aspects of quantum mechanics. In this work, we present a comprehensive analysis of entanglement metrics in the $B$-meson system within the framework of open quantum systems, which introduces decoherence due to interactions with the environment. We examine several distinct entanglement measures, each highlighting different facets of quantum entanglement and its sensitivity to decoherence effects. We further analyze the impact of decoherence by systematically varying the decoherence parameter across different scales
