Can Historic Measurements cast light on the Spectral Differences found between the Pierre Auger Observatory and the Telescope Array?
Abstract
The differences between the energy spectra reported by the Pierre Auger Observatory and the Telescope Array Collaboration are well-known. In an effort to understand these differences, we have studied the residuals of the fluxes measured in early work at AGASA, Volcano Ranch and Haverah Park with reference to the spectrum reported by the Auger Collaboration. After an empirical adjustment to the energies in the region before the ankle, where fluxes from the two hemispheres are expected to be the same, it is found that historic data are in good agreement with measurements made at the Pierre Auger Observatory above 30 EeV. Thus, the tensions between the spectra measured by the Telescope Array and the Auger Observatory remain.
