Absolute area under a scaled Brownian motion with resetting

Abstract

We investigate the statistical properties and ergodic behavior of the absolute area below the trajectory of a particle subject to stochastic resetting and moving according to a scaled Brownian motion with exponent $β$. We compare the contributions to the absolute area from the waiting times between resets and the backward recurrence time. Using the renewal formalism we derive the lower-order moments of the absolute area under both Poissonian and heavy-tailed power-law resetting waiting time distributions with exponent $α$. For Poissonian resetting, stochastic interruption suppresses fluctuations, driving the area to be ergodic, regardless of the value of $β$. In contrast, power-law resetting yields a rich spectrum of ergodic regimes. For $0 < α< 1$, the system displays weak ergodicity breaking and the maximum contribution dominates the area accumulated during the waiting times. For $1+β< α< 2$, we unveil an ergodic transition exclusive to the subdiffusive regime at $α=1+β$, where ergodicity is restored. These results clarify the subtle interplay between anomalous diffusion and power-law waiting times between resettings. Our results are tested by numerical simulations exhibiting an excellent agreement.

Statistical Description of Fermi System over a Surface in a Uniform External Field

A statistical approach to the description of the thermodynamic properties of the Fermi particle system occupying a half-space over a plane of finite size in a uniform external field is proposed. The number of particles per unit area is assumed to be arbitrary, in particular, small. General formulas are obtained for entropy, energy, thermodynamic potential, heat capacities under various conditions and the distribution of the particle number density over the surface. In the continuum limit of a large surface area, the temperature dependences of heat capacities and density distribution are calculated. The cases of gravitational and electric fields are considered.

Hyperstatistics

We propose a general approach, named by us hyperstatistics, to treat complex systems, in which Boltzmann-Gibbs statistics breaks down at the domain level of the system. Hyperstatistics preserves the concavity of the nonadditive $q$-entropy. We obtain analytical closed-form expressions for the here proposed ($q, n$)-generalized Boltzmann factor $B_q^{n}$ considering uniform, $γ$, Log-normal, F, and the $q$-$γ$ probability distribution functions. Remarkably, for all investigated distribution functions, $B_q^{n}$ reduces to a $q$-exponential-type function. To demonstrate the applicability of hyperstatistics, we use a table top experiment of the discharge of a capacitor considering $γ$-distributed relaxation times, the pressure decay over time associated with the pumping of $^4$He lines of a closed cycle cryostat, midrapidity data for $\textit{p}$-Pb collisions at the LHC, as well as data set for acceleration distribution in turbulent systems. Furthermore, we deduce the power-law-like $\textit{universal}$ dielectric response using a $q$-generalized $γ$-distribution function proposed in this work. Hyperstatistics is applicable to systems with inherent non-Boltzmann-Gibbsian statistics at the domain level. We demonstrate that at the domain level hyperstatistics and superstatistics are equivalent, while at the macroscopic level hyperstatistics recovers superstatistics for $q \to 1$ because the Boltzmann-Gibbs character of the domains is restored, as well as Boltzmann-Gibbs statistics for $n \to \infty$.

Thermodynamic Uncertainty Relation For a Multi-Phase Alternating Renewal Random Walk

Thermodynamic Uncertainty Relations (TURs) impose universal bounds linking current precision to entropy production in nonequilibrium systems. While general bounds like the Proesmans--Van den Broeck (PV) relation provide a broad framework, they often remain loose for processes characterized by renewal events. In this work, we derive a generalized entropic bound for current fluctuations in renewal-reward processes. By utilizing a rigorous variance decomposition within the framework of renewal-reward theory, we obtain a model-independent bound that is not only rigorous but tighter than the standard PV relation. Notably, in the linear-response regime, our bound correctly scales with the renewal rate and identifies a precision penalty arising from cycle-length fluctuations. These results provide a physically informative constraint on the precision of run-and-tumble-type dynamics and highlight the universal limits of transport in complex stochastic walkers.
