Boundary geometry and concentration points for attractive Bose-Einstein condensates with a ring-shaped potential

Abstract

In this paper, we study the ground states of attractive Bose-Einstein condensates in a bounded domain $Ω\subset \mathbb R^2$ under the ring-shaped trapping potential $$ V(x)=(|x|-1)^2. $$ The boundary geometry of $Ω$ may allow the ring $Γ=\{x\in\mathbb R^2:|x|=1\}$ of global minima for $V(x)$ to meet both the interior and the boundary of $Ω$. As the interaction strength approaches the critical value, we prove that if $Γ\cap Ω\not=\emptyset$, the mass of ground states concentrates at a point $x_0\inΓ\cap Ω$ that has maximal distance from $\partialΩ$. Our method relies on exponential upper and lower bounds for the difference between the bounded domain and whole space minimal energies. The essential lower bound follows from a uniform quadratic-growth estimate near the ground state manifold of the whole space problem, which is established by combining the nondegeneracy of the optimizer for the Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality with a Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction.

Smooth solutions to the chord log-Minkowski problem

In integral geometry generalized with Aleksandrov's variational theory, Lutwak-Xi-Yang-Zhang [Comm. Pure Appl. Math. 77 (2024)] recently opened the door to researching the cone-chord measures and their log-Minkowski problem stemming from the chord integrals, named as the chord log-Minkowski problem. In the smooth category, the solvability of the chord log-Minkowski problem amounts to dealing with a nonlocal {M}onge-{A}mpère equation involving a Riesz potential. In this paper, to study the chord log-Minkowski problem, we first present some novel results on the boundary regularity of the Riesz potential. Based on these results, we obtain the regularity and existence for the chord log-Minkowski problem from the perspective of a nonlocal {M}onge-{A}mpère equation and a nonlocal Gauss curvature flow equation.

A proof of Onsager's Conjecture for the SQG equation

We construct solutions to the SQG equation that fail to conserve the Hamiltonian while having the maximal allowable regularity for this property to hold. This result solves the generalized Onsager conjecture on the threshold regularity for Hamiltonian conservation for SQG. We also prove nonuniqueness for arbitrary smooth data and an h-principle result.
