Folding to the Bessel-Clifford system, and Equivariant Topological Recursion

Abstract

We study the interplay between symmetry reductions of meromorphic connections, folding, and topological recursion. As a motivating example, we realize the Bessel-Clifford system as a folding of a symmetry-invariant subspace of the $0-$member of the Painlevé IV hierarchy. We introduce equivariant topological recursion for spectral curves with a Klein four-group $\mathbb Z_2\times\mathbb Z_2$ symmetry and prove that the corresponding equivariant correlators can be folded to the ordinary topological recursion correlators on the quotient spectral curve. We further establish the compatibility of this folding with the associated wave functions and quantum curves. In the Bessel-Clifford example, this yields an explicit relation between the equivariant and folded wave functions and recovers the corresponding quantum curve reduction. These results provide a framework for relating symmetry reductions of integrable systems to folding operations in topological recursion.

Kohn-Sham models for encapsulated two-dimensional materials

We study Kohn-Sham Density Functional Theory (DFT) models describing the electronic structure of two-dimensional materials placed in a three-dimensional environment, encapsulated between two parallel conducting electrodes. In this geometry, the Dirichlet boundary conditions at the electrodes screen the Coulomb interaction, which becomes effectively short-ranged, of Yukawa type. We prove that some nonlinear Kohn-Sham DFT models are well-posed in this setting, both for periodic materials (such as graphene) and for quasi-periodic materials (such as twisted bilayer graphene and other moiré materials for generic incommensurate twist angles).

Cohomological beta function

We propose a cohomological approach to computing the conformal anomaly. Using the example of current-current deformations of two-dimensional conformal field theories, we reproduce the well-known Cardy formula for the leading contribution to the perturbative beta function as the coefficient of the cocycle that realizes the obstruction to deforming the conformal algebra module structure on the state space. In addition to offering a novel conceptual perspective on the conformal anomaly, the proposed approach is anticipated to provide an efficient tool for computing higher-order coefficients of perturbative beta functions.

Exact Chained-Word Threshold and Monotone-Path Structure in the Even Root-of-Unity Kaleidoscope Yang-Baxter Algebra

Qiu, Guan, and Yu conjectured that in the even-order Kaleidoscope Yang--Baxter equation every word $ΛT^{k_1}Λ\cdots T^{k_M}Λ$, built from a square-zero matrix $Λ$ and integer powers of a shift $T$ of order $N$, vanishes once $M\geq N/2$. We prove this for every even $N\geq4$ and every complex parameter $u$ with $u\neq0$ and $u^N\neq1$, and show that the bound is sharp. For $M=N/2-1$ we determine exactly which words are nonzero; each of them has rank two. After block reduction, the factors associated with the intervening powers of $T$ lower a common flag of length $N/2$ by at least one step. The spectral idempotents of $T$ then give a presentation of the algebra generated by $T$ and $Λ$ by paths between levels, in which two paths compose only when the level changes monotonically. This algebra is independent of $u$, has dimension $N^2-N+2$, and is a pullback of two incidence algebras. Its radical is generated by $Λ$ and has nilpotency index $N/2+1$, and the algebra has infinite global dimension and infinite representation type. Replacing powers of $T$ by arbitrary functions of $T$ gives exact rank formulas and, for $N\geq6$, rank-one elements in the top radical power. Finally, four conditions on a filtered pair of operators over an arbitrary field recover the threshold and the radical; none of them can be omitted.
