Locally Gorenstein algebras, a generalization of Gorenstein algebras

Abstract

For an Artin algebra $Λ$, we define the class of locally Gorenstein modules, which is a generalization of semi-Gorenstein projective modules and, therefore, a generalization of projective Gorenstein modules. For a locally Gorenstein module $X\in{\rm mod}\ Λ$ we construct $\underline{χ}_X$ a subcategory of $\underline{\rm mod}$ $Λ$ and we prove that the syzygy functor is faithful and full on $\underline{χ}_X$. Using that, we prove that the Igusa-Todorov functions $ϕ$ and $ψ$ vanish on the family of locally Gorenstein modules. Finally, using locally Gorenstein modules, we define the locally Gorenstein algebras, a generalization of Gorenstein algebras, and we prove that their finitistic, and the $ϕ$ and $ψ$ dimensions are finite.

On the (LC) conjecture

We prove the (LC) conjecture of Hochster and Huneke in some non-trivial cases. This has several applications. Recently, Brenner and Caminata answered a numerical evidence due to Dao and Smirnov on the shape of generalized Hilbert-Kunz functions of smooth curves. As applications, we first reprove this by a short argument. Then we give a proof of second numerical evidence predicted by Dao and Smirnov on the shape of generalized Hilbert-Kunz functions of nodal curves. Thirdly, we answer a question posted by Vraciu on the (LC) property of a proposed ring. Inspiring with the (LC) property, we present a connection to the stability theory. This leads us to investigate the stability and the strong semistability of the sheaf of relations on $\{x^2,y^2,z^2\}$ over the Klein's quartic curve. This answers questions of Brenner. After presenting a connection from (LC) to the $F$-threshold, we answer a question posted by Huneke et al. Additional applications and examples are given.

Bounded powers of edge ideals: Nearly Gorenstein polytopes

A lattice polytope $\mathcal{P} \subset \mathbb{R}^n$ of dimension $n$ is called nearly Gorenstein if $\mathcal{P}$ is normal and if its Ehrhart ring is a nearly Gorenstein ring. We study nearly Gorenstein polytopes arising from discrete polymatroids of bounded powers of edge ideals. Especially, it is shown that every nearly Gorenstein polytope coming from either a complete graph or a complete bipartite graph is level.
