Plancherel Decompositions and Distinctions for $\mathrm{Sp}_{2n}\backslash \mathrm{Gl}_{2n+1}$ and $P(\mathrm{Sp}_{2n})\backslash \mathrm{Gl}_{2n}$

Abstract

Let $F$ be a non-Archimedean local field of characteristic zero. We determine the Plancherel decompositions of $\mathrm{Sp}_{2n}(F)\backslash\mathrm{GL}_{2n+1}(F)$ and $P(\mathrm{Sp}_{2n})(F)\backslash\mathrm{GL}_{2n}(F)$, where $P(\mathrm{Sp}_{2n})$ denotes the mirabolic subgroup of $\mathrm{Sp}_{2n}$, and study smooth distinction for both spaces. We carry out the local unfolding procedure of arXiv:1203.0039, Section 9.5, constructing unitary isomorphisms with degenerate Whittaker models by successive Fourier transforms. The isomorphism for the even model is already stated there in Example 9.5.17. The resulting Plancherel formulas are direct integrals of normalized parabolic inductions from the tempered duals of $\mathrm{GL}_n(F)\times\mathrm{GL}_{n+1}(F)$ and $\mathrm{GL}_n(F)\times\mathrm{GL}_n(F)$, respectively, with product Whittaker-Plancherel measures. In the odd case, the parameter map agrees with the prediction of arXiv:2409.04677. Using closed parabolic orbits and local Rankin-Selberg integrals, we prove that all representations induced from these tempered data are distinguished for the corresponding model. We also prove that essentially square-integrable representations are not distinguished for the odd model, and that supercuspidal representations are not distinguished for the even model. For the even model with $n=1,2$, we construct distinguished square-integrable representations outside the Plancherel support. Thus, the smooth tempered distinguished spectrum can be strictly larger than the corresponding $L^2$-spectrum. For $\mathrm{GL}_5(F)$, however, we prove that an irreducible tempered representation is $\mathrm{Sp}_4(F)$-distinguished if and only if it is induced from tempered representations of $\mathrm{GL}_2(F)$ and $\mathrm{GL}_3(F)$.

Representing Vineyard Modules

Time-series of persistence diagrams, more commonly known as vineyards, are a useful way to capture how multi-scale topological features vary over time. However, we do lose significant information in how the persistent homology at different time stamps relate to each other. A natural algebraic version of vineyards is a time series of persistence modules equipped with interleaving maps between the persistence modules at different time stamps. We call this a vineyard module. In this paper we will set up the framework for representing a vineyard module via an indexed set of vines alongside a collection of matrices. We outline an algorithmic way to transform the bases of the persistence modules at each time step within the vineyard module to make the matrices within this representation as simple as possible. With some reasonable assumptions on the vineyard modules, this simplified representation can be completely described (up to isomorphism) by the associated vineyard and a vector of finite length. While this vineyard and vector representation is not necessarily unique we can prove that the vector will always be the zero vector when the vineyard module is isomorphic to the direct sum of vine modules. We also show uniqueness when the vineyard module contains two vines (over field $\mathbb{F}_2$) and can characterise and count which are realisable, giving a complete account of isomorphism classes of vineyard modules with two vines. To define and analyse this approach we first must set up a lot of preliminary results about changes of bases for pairs of persistence modules where we are given $\varepsilon$-interleaving maps for sufficiently close $\varepsilon$. This new perspective on vineyards also provides a new approach to the study of multi-parameter persistence modules.

Generic distinction of induced representations: the case of symmetric spaces

Let H be the fixed-point subgroup of an involution of a reductive group G over a local field F of characteristic zero. We give a necessary condition for a parabolically induced representation of G(F) to admit a non-zero family of H(F)-equivariant linear forms depending holomorphically on the induction parameter. By works of Blanc-Delorme and Brylinski-Delorme, this condition is essentially sufficient. As a global consequence, we obtain vanishing results for regularized periods of Eisenstein series. We illustrate this on symplectic periods, where we extend Offen's computation of truncated periods of certain cuspidal Eisenstein series to inner forms of GL(2n).

Lie algebras in symmetric tensor categories

We develop the general theory of Lie algebras in symmetric tensor categories. We prove categorical versions of classical results such as Engel's theorem, Cartan's criterion, and that all derivations of a strongly semisimple Lie algebra are inner. For finite-dimensional graded Lie algebras, we construct a graded category $\mathcal{O}$, classify its graded-simple objects, and prove the generic graded irreducibility of Verma modules. Lastly, we develop the theory of root systems for contragredient Lie algebras.
