A direct obstacle proof of a dimension-free weak-type $(1,1)$ bound for the Gaussian Riesz transforms

Abstract

We give a detailed, direct proof of a dimension-free weak-type $(1,1)$ estimate for the first-order Gaussian vector Riesz transform, using the fractional obstacle method of Ouyang, Spector, and Stockdale. For $dγ_n=π^{-n/2}e^{-|x|^2}\,dx$, let $L=-\tfrac12Δ+x\cdot\nabla$, $D=2^{-1/2}\nabla$, and $R_γ=DL^{-1/2}Π_0$, where $Π_0$ removes the mean. We prove that $R_γ$ has weak-type constant at most $2$ on real-valued inputs, independently of $n$. The main construction is the unique unshifted decomposition $F=g+L^{1/2}u$, for nonnegative $F\in L^2(γ_n)$ and $a>\int F\,dγ_n$, with $u\geq0$, $\min\{F,a\}\leq g\leq a$, preservation of mass, and $g=a$ on $\{u>0\}$. We retain the details of coercivity, the Lewy--Stampacchia estimate, the upgrade from the form domain to the operator domain, and locality. We also identify the $L^1$ extension with the principal-value transform and obtain the constant $8/π$ for complex-valued inputs.

On the dispersive estimates for the discrete Schrödinger equation on a honeycomb lattice

The discrete Schrödinger equation on a two-dimensional honeycomb lattice is a fundamental tight-binding approximation model that describes the propagation of waves on graphene. For free evolution, we first show that the degenerate frequencies of the dispersion relation are completely characterized by three symmetric periodic curves (Theorem 2.1), and that the three curves meet at Dirac points where conical singularities appear (see Figure 2.1). Based on this observation, we prove the $L^1\to L^\infty$ dispersion estimates for the linear flow depending on the frequency localization (Theorem 2.3). Collecting all, we obtain the dispersion estimate with $O(|t|^{-2/3})$ decay as well as Strichartz estimates. As an application, we prove small data scattering for a nonlinear model (Theorem 2.10). The proof of the key dispersion estimates is based on the associated oscillatory integral estimates with degenerate phases and conical singularities at Dirac points. Our proof is direct and uses only elementary methods.

Upper bound on heat kernels of finite particle systems of Keller-Segel type

We obtain an upper bound on the heat kernel of the finite particle approximation of the Keller-Segel model of chemotaxis. The proof exploits a connection with certain non-local operators. We also obtain upper heat kernel bounds for related systems of interacting Brownian and stable particles that exhibit similar local blow-up effects.
