Saturation degree of powers of graded ideals

Abstract

Let $I$ be a non-nilpotent graded ideal of a standard graded algebra over a Noetherian commutative ring. We show that the saturation degree sdeg $I^n$ is asymptotically a constant function or a linear function whose slope is one of the generating degrees of $I$. Furthermore, we give sufficient (and necessary) conditions for a numerical functions to be the function sdeg $I^n$ of an ideal $I$ generated by forms of the same degree. Our results may provide a better understanding of the initial behavior of the regularity function reg $I^n$.

Ramification ideals for products of pure subgroups

We study ramification ideals of finite Galois extensions of henselian valued fields whose Galois groups are products of pure subgroups. We give a criterion showing that the ideals supplied by the factors need not exhaust all subgroup ideals, and construct $C_p^2$-counterexamples of rank one with each defect $1,p,p^2$. For ramification-adapted families, whose intersections generate each ramification group, every subgroup ideal is represented by a cyclic subgroup of one member; when the members are pure, this gives a description in terms of distance sets. Such adapted decompositions always exist for elementary abelian groups. We also characterize principality of ramification ideals through defectlessness of the pure adapted factors. Kuhlmann's example shows that these conditions do not imply defectlessness of the full extension.

Commutative rings with square-difference factor absorbing factorization

We introduce and study sdf-absorbing factorization rings (SAF-rings), in which every regular ideal is a finite product of square-difference factor absorbing ideals. We investigate their behavior under direct products, localizations, factor rings, and module idealizations, and establish connections with SP-rings, Dedekind rings, and N-rings. We also introduce strongly sdf-absorbing factorization rings (SSAF-rings), relate them to SSP-rings and almost multiplication rings, and prove that the Noetherian SSAF-rings are precisely the ZPI-rings. Applications to module idealizations and monoid rings are also presented.
