The ABC-equation revisited: missed (quasi) integrable cases. Part II: extensions and actions

Abstract

We continue here the study of the \textsc{ABC}-equation $Au_xu_{yt} + Bu_yu_{xt} + Cu_tu_{xy} = 0$, $A$, $B$, $C\in\mathbb{R}$ and using the results obtained in the first part construct new quasi-integrable structures and compute their actions on symmetries and cosymmetries.

Jacobi last multipliers and metrisability of Liénard differential equations

We classify non-autonomous Liénard differential equations possessing invariants quadratic with respect to the first derivative with cofactors of a special form. These invariants produce Jacobi last multipliers of the related equations. We find some families of Liénard differential equations that have first integrals fractional-quadratic with respect to the first derivative. Our method can be used to solve the metrisability problem for Liénard differential equations. A second-order ordinary differential equation is called metrisable if its integral curves are unparameterized geodesics of a Levi-Civita connection of a metric on a two-dimensional surface. We present some explicit examples. We find metrisable autonomous Liénard differential equations satisfying the Chiellini integrability condition. This result gives metrics with rational or transcendental in momenta first integrals. We derive a positive-definite metric whose geodesic flow possesses a first integral that is non-Liouvillian in the momentum ratio. We prove that the Ermakov-Pinney equation is metrisable.

From infinite symmetries to multi-soliton manifolds: dispersion-driven reduction for the KP and mKP equations

The infinite-dimensional symmetry algebras of integrable systems in $(2+1)$ dimensions exhibit a remarkable reduction property when restricted to finite-dimensional multi-soliton manifolds. In this paper, we systematically investigate this phenomenon for the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili and modified Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equations. For the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation, we analyze both the $K$-symmetry and the $τ$-symmetry hierarchies. It is shown that for any $n$-soliton solution, each higher-order $K$-symmetry generator reduces to a linear combination of the $n$ independent translational symmetries $σ_{ξ_{m0}}$ associated with the individual soliton phase shifts, where the coefficients are precisely the dispersion relations evaluated at the soliton parameters. Closed-form expressions for odd- and even-order $K$-symmetries are derived, and determinant representations are provided to characterize the reduction systematically. For the \(τ\)-symmetries, each \(τ_n\) becomes a linear combination of the three fundamental soliton symmetries \(σ_{k_m}\), \(σ_{l_m}\), and \(σ_{ξ_{m0}}\), with coefficients that are rational functions of soliton parameters \(k_m\) and \(l_m\). These results are further extended to the modified Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation, where analogous reduction patterns are established. This work establishes a direct and intrinsic link between the algebraic structure of infinite symmetries and the spectral properties of soliton solutions, offering a unified physical interpretation: the infinite set of higher-order symmetries generates linear superpositions of elementary soliton translations, weighted by powers of the wave numbers and dispersion coefficients.

The gauge action on semi-discrete Lax representations, its invariants, and Lax-Miura type constructions

We introduce and study explicit invariants with respect to the action of (local) gauge transformations on the set of semi-discrete (differential-difference) matrix Lax representations (MLRs) for a given (1+1)-dimensional evolutionary differential-difference equation with any number of components. Using these invariants, we obtain the following general results: - Sufficient conditions for nonremovability of parameters in semi-discrete MLRs. (Nonremovability by means of gauge transformations.) - Necessary conditions for two semi-discrete MLRs to be gauge equivalent. Effective use of these results is demonstrated. We present the general theory and apply it to MLRs for equations of Volterra--Yamilov, Cherdantsev--Yamilov, Toda types and Miura-type modifications. Also, we present a comparison with results of S. Yu. Sakovich and M. Marvan on gauge invariants for (continuous) zero-curvature representations of partial differential equations. Furthermore, we demonstrate procedures for constructing Miura-type transformations (MTs) for discrete (partial difference) equations (on the two-dimensional integer lattice) by means of gauge simplifications of discrete matrix Lax pairs (DLPs) and reductions of auxiliary systems associated with DLPs. This allows us to construct new MTs for (non-evolutionary) 4-point and 6-point discrete equations from [D. Levi, R.I. Yamilov, J. Phys. A 2009], [S. Konstantinou-Rizos, A.V. Mikhailov, P. Xenitidis, J. Math. Phys. 2015].
