Probing the $τ$ anomalous magnetic and electric dipole moments in photon-induced $γγ\toτ^+τ^-$ production at the FCC-hh

Abstract

The sensitivity of the FCC-hh to the anomalous magnetic moment $a_τ$ and the electric dipole moment $d_τ$ of the $τ$ lepton is studied in photon-induced $γγ\toτ^+τ^-$ production with both $τ$ leptons decaying hadronically. Central exclusive (elastic) signal events, in which both protons remain intact, are generated with MadGraph5_aMC@NLO using a FeynRules UFO model of the anomalous $γττ$ vertex merged with the TauDecay model, so that the $τ$ decays and their spin correlations are included in the matrix element. Single- and double-dissociative production is estimated with SuperChic and added to the elastic signal with its own coupling dependence and with normalisation and shape uncertainties of 25%. Pythia 8 decays the unstable hadrons in the signal, decays the $τ$ leptons and simulates the parton shower and hadronisation in the backgrounds, and hadronises the dissociated protons. Signal and backgrounds are passed through the Delphes simulation of the FCC-hh detector. Hadronic $τ$ decays are reconstructed from particle-flow tracks and photons with an algorithm based on the hadrons-plus-strips approach, with an efficiency of 73.4% within the acceptance. Requiring no additional tracks from the $τ$ vertices retains part of the dissociative contribution and reduces the Drell-Yan and $γγ\to WW$ backgrounds to 0.9% of the SM yield. The couplings are constrained from the shape of the total transverse mass distribution. For a centre-of-mass energy of 84 TeV and 30 ab$^{-1}$, the expected 95% CL limits are $-3.38\times10^{-4} < a_τ< 3.36\times10^{-4}$ and $|d_τ| < 1.88\times10^{-18}\,e\,$cm, about an order of magnitude beyond the current bounds. Results are also given for FCC-hh scenarios between 72 and 120 TeV and for an optimistic detector parametrisation.

Production of excited $Λ_c^+$ baryons through $Λ_b$ hadronic weak decays

In this work, to establish a more abundant $Λ_c$ baryon spectrum, we discuss the production potentials of the excited $Λ_c$ baryons through $Λ_b$ hadronic weak decays within a constituent quark model. Based on our successful explanations of the existing experimental data for the $Λ_b \to Λ_c(π^-, K^{-}, D^{-}, D^{-}_s, D_s^{*-})$ processes, we further calculate the decay rates of the $Λ_b$ baryon into the $1P$-, $1D$-, $2S$-, $3S$-, $2P$-, $1F$-, and $2D$-wave $Λ_c$ excited states. It is found that these $Λ_c$ excitations have large production rates in the $Λ_b$ hadronic weak decay process associated with $π^-$ meson emitting, i.e., $Λ_b\to Λ_c^{*}π^-$, their branching fractions can reach up to $\mathcal{O}(10^{-3})$. To search for the higher $3S$-, $2P$-, $1F$-, and $2D$-wave $Λ_c$ states, the $Λ_b \to Λ_c (3S) π^-\to D^{*0}p π^-$, and $Λ_b\to Λ_c(2P,2D,1F) π^-\to D^{(*)0}pπ^-$ decays are worth observing in future experiments.

Anatomy of RHN DM relic in the vanilla scotogenic neutrino mass model

The scotogeneic neutrino mass models are very popular choices to generate light neutrino masses via radiative mechanism. In these models, the particles running in the loop are distinguished from the standard model due to an imposed $\mathcal{Z}_2$ symmetry under which the loop particles are odd. Therefore, the lightest particle running in the loop can be a viable dark matter candidate. In this paper, we revisit the minimal scotogenic neutrino mass model and study the anatomy of right handed neutrino (RHN) DM relic, taking into account contributions from self-annihilation, co-annihilation, conversion-driven processes, as well as production via the freeze-in mechanism. We impose the constraints from direct detection and collider searches of DM including anomalous magnetic moment of muon, charged lepton flavor violation and low-energy neutrino oscillation data to show that the lightest RHN can be a viable DM in the mass range: $M_{h}/2\lesssim M_{\rm DM}\lesssim2000 {\rm GeV}$ (thermal DM) and $0.1 ~{\rm GeV}\lesssim M_{\rm DM}\lesssim 1000 {\rm GeV}$ (non-thermal DM), where $M_h$ denotes the Standard Model Higgs mass and $M_{\rm DM}$ is the RHN dark matter mass. We also find the displaced vertex signatures of long lived particles which can be probed at future colliders.

Impact of non-standard neutrino-electron interactions on Big Bang Nucleosynthesis

Neutrino non-standard interactions (NSI) with electrons, predicted in many extended theoretical models of particle physics, are known to alter the picture of neutrino decoupling from the cosmic plasma. We update previous analyses of neutrino decoupling in the presence of NSI with electrons, extending the parameter space and assessing their impact on the primordial light-element abundances produced during Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN). We show that tracking the NSI-induced modifications of the neutrino distributions is necessary to accurately predict the helium-4 abundance, which cannot be derived from a pure $N_{\rm eff}$-driven change. BBN therefore provides additional observables that are complementary to $N_{\rm eff}$. We then derive cosmological constraints on non-universal and flavour-changing NSI parameters, using different dataset combinations, and compare them with bounds from terrestrial experiments. We find that the cosmological limits are significantly less stringent than the terrestrial ones, but they provide an independent probe of neutrino interactions in the early universe.
