Nonequivalence of $\mathbb{Z}_p\mathbb{Z}_{p^2}$-linear and $\mathbb{Z}_{p^s}$-linear generalized Hadamard codes for odd primes

Abstract

The $\mathbb{Z}_p\mathbb{Z}_{p^2}$-additive codes are subgroups of $\mathbb{Z}_p^{α_1}\times\mathbb{Z}_{p^2}^{α_2}$, and they can be seen as linear codes over $\mathbb{Z}_p$ when $α_2=0$, as $\mathbb{Z}_{p^2}$-additive codes when $α_1=0$, and as $\mathbb{Z}_2\mathbb{Z}_4$-additive codes when $p=2$. A $\mathbb{Z}_p\mathbb{Z}_{p^2}$-linear generalized Hadamard (GH) code is a GH code over $\mathbb{Z}_p$ which is the Gray map image of a $\mathbb{Z}_p\mathbb{Z}_{p^2}$-additive code. For every prime $p$, there are recursive constructions of $\mathbb{Z}_p\mathbb{Z}_{p^2}$-linear GH codes $H_p^{t_1,t_2}$ with $α_1\neq0$ and $α_2\neq0$, and of $\mathbb{Z}_{p^s}$-linear GH codes $\bar H_p^{t_1,\dots,t_s}$. We show that the kernel blocks of a nonlinear code $H_p^{t_1,t_2}$ give equivalent punctured codes, and that these punctured codes are linear. Any of them is called the derived code of $H_p^{t_1,t_2}$. We also determine the ranks of the codes $H_p^{t_1,t_2}$ and $\bar H_p^{t_1,t_2}$. For odd $p$, the rank of $H_p^{t_1,t_2}$ depends on the Bernoulli numbers modulo $p$. By comparing the derived codes and the ranks, we show that, for odd $p$, no code $H_p^{t_1,t_2}$ is equivalent to any of these $\mathbb{Z}_{p^s}$-linear GH codes. For $p=2$, a nonlinear code $H_2^{t_1,t_2}$ is equivalent to a $\mathbb{Z}_{2^s}$-linear Hadamard code if and only if $t_2\geq2$. Finally, we count the nonequivalent codes in the union of both families.

On Dependence Measures Based on $f$-Divergence and $Φ$-Entropy

We study dependence measures induced by $Φ$-divergence (also known as $ f$-divergence in the literature) for finite random variables. We define conditional $Φ$-mutual information through an exact chain rule and develop its structural properties and variational representations. But in general it lacks conditional symmetry and deterministic self-reduction. To tackle this, we introduce max-$Φ$-mutual information $\wIPhi$, a variational envelope obtained by optimizing over $\IPhi$ quantities containing auxiliary random variables, which restores both properties and satisfies a subadditive chain rule. Both quantities reduce to Shannon's mutual information when $Φ(t)=t\log t$. For smooth convex generators with $Φ(0)<\infty$ and concave $t\mapsto t^2Φ''(t)$, we establish an optimizer characterization and obtain a closed-form expression for the unconditional quantity in terms of $Φ$-self-information. For the same class, we show that its private-randomness-assisted version is either an affine function of Shannon's mutual information, with coefficients depending only on $Φ$, or identically infinite. This dichotomy is determined by the asymptotic growth of $Φ$ and clarifies the sensitivity of max-$Φ$-mutual information to local randomness. We further derive inner bounds on $Φ$-ribbons from prescribed independence structures and prove that these bounds are optimal when $Φ(t)=t\log t$. We also establish a multipartite $Φ$-generalization of the Zhang--Yeung inequality and derive corresponding ribbon regions. Finally, we give sufficient conditions for reducing the computation of $Φ$-strong data processing constants for Z-channel sources to a boundary optimization.

Green Cell-Free Massive MIMO for ISAC: Joint Cloud, Fronthaul and Radio Resource Allocation

In this paper, we develop a cross-layer end-to-end (E2E) resource orchestration framework for green cell-free massive multiple-input multiple-output (CF-mMIMO) integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems with distributed multi-target detection. We propose a distributed sensing approach in which receive access points (RX-APs) compute local test statistics, which are aggregated at the cloud using weights based on sensing interference and channel quality. We derive the local maximum a posteriori ratio test (MAPRT) detectors under fully informed and partially informed operation, representing different levels of transmit-signal information at the RX-APs. We further characterize their processing and fronthaul requirements and derive a network power model incorporating radio transmission, AP and cloud processing, and fronthaul infrastructure. We formulate a mixed-integer non-convex problem that jointly optimizes transmit powers, AP modes, user equipment (UE) and sensing-area associations, RX-AP assignments, and active fronthaul and cloud resources subject to communication, sensing, power, processing-capacity, and fronthaul constraints. A two-stage iterative algorithm based on Big-M reformulation, convex- concave programming, penalty-based relaxation, and structured discrete recovery is developed. Numerical results show that the proposed E2E framework reduces total power by up to 50% compared with transmit-power-only optimization and by approximately 11-17% compared with joint radio optimization under full coordination, while maintaining detection probabilities above 0:95.

Moment Ambiguity and the Limits of Robust Stochastic Optimization

We study fundamental information-theoretic limits of robust stochastic optimization when the distribution is known only through its exact moment sequence. We develop a unified framework that produces families of distinct distributions sharing all moments yet inducing radically different optimal decisions, thereby establishing strong impossibility results for a range of decision problems under moment ambiguity. Our binary and $N$-way moment-matching constructions separate quantiles, threshold regions, and online selection opportunities while preserving every moment. For the newsvendor problem, moment equivalence causes quantile ambiguity, inducing any fixed or randomized order quantity to fail arbitrarily badly. For revenue maximization, no deterministic or randomized posted pricing scheme can secure a nontrivial approximation relative to the full-information benchmark. For the secretary problem with cardinal observations, the optimal robust success probability under exact moment disclosure is the classical finite-horizon value $s_m$, even for i.i.d. observations. This value converges to $1/e$, compared with the full-information limit of approximately $0.5801$ due to Gilbert and Mosteller (J. Am. Stat. Assoc., 1966). We also recover and expand upon the recent impossibility result of Correa et al. (STOC, 2026) for prophet inequalities with moment knowledge. For every fixed $r\ge1$, exact moment knowledge can yield at best a $Θ(1/\log m)$ competitive ratio, even when competing against relaxed benchmarks based on expected $r$-th order statistics or when the algorithm is allowed to select $r$ items.
