New CP-violating sources beyond the reach of EDMs
Abstract
The Standard Model does not contain sufficient amount of CP violation to account for the observed baryon asymmetry of the universe. Beyond Standard Model scenarios that aim to explain this asymmetry introduce new sources of CP violation, but these generically feed into electric dipole moments (EDMs), which are severely constrained by experiment. We indentify a new class of CP-violating sources that cannot generate EDMs directly: EDM operators are C conserving and P violating, whereas CP violation introduced here is, by construction, C violating and P conserving. We give a concrete model realisation accommodating such sources and discuss their relevance for baryogenesis.
