Graviphoton mixing with KK modes in the 2D effective theory of charged black holes

Abstract

We study the effects of massive Kaluza--Klein modes on the two-dimensional low-energy effective theory obtained by the $S^2$ reduction of four-dimensional Einstein--Maxwell theory on a Reissner--Nordström black hole background. We retain the first excited ($l=1$) Maxwell Kaluza--Klein modes in addition to the massless sector. The background electric flux mixes the Maxwell Kaluza--Klein scalars with the graviphotons, and tree-level exchange of the massive scalars generates a correction to the graviphoton kinetic term proportional to the square of the black hole charge. Within the leading local approximation, we also perturbatively evaluate the one-loop correction to the graviphoton kinetic term and find no dependence on the black hole charge. We find that near extremality, the charge-dependent tree-level correction becomes parametrically comparable to the classical graviphoton kinetic term.

A first order nonabelian antisymmetric tensor model with hidden higher symmetry

We present a nonabelian complex self-dual antisymmetric tensor model, with gauged internal symmetry, comprising a complex multiplet of massless self-dual antisymmetric tensor fields and its conjugate (interacting with massless Yang-Mills gauge fields). We build the model at the classical level, via a first order formulation, assigning local fields to a component expansion over the Dirac algebra and a basis of internal matrices, with Lorentz and gauge invariance ensured by tracing, and applying an appropriate bilinear form. The full expansion requires auxiliary place-holder fields, which are not potentials, but become curvatures (field strengths) after elimination via their algebraic equations of motion. The component expansion over the Dirac algebra is closed under multiplication by additional internal matrices, which are not gauge group generators, but mix internal components, and link auxiliary curvatures with potentials. The model is shown to be invariant under such transformations, and thus possesses a type of hidden internal symmetry. We analyze the specific case of gauge group $SU(2)\! \times \! U(1)$, and as higher symmetry candidates, we consider both the Lie group $SU(3)$ and the Lie superalgebra $SU(2/1)$ (with the additional matrices acting via Lie brackets, or graded Lie brackets, respectively).

The Standard Model on a finite bosonic lattice with continuum Weyl fermions

We investigate a formulation of the Standard Model in which gauge and Higgs fields are regulated on a finite lattice, while quarks and leptons remain continuum Weyl fermions. This preserves the familiar continuum description of anomalies, spectral flow, and fermion zero modes, without requiring a finite-dimensional discretization of chiral fermions. The Standard Model's anomaly cancellation permits a gauge-invariant definition of the chiral fermion determinant. Yukawa interactions are included in the full fermion determinant using a gauge-covariant cutoff that acts on the interaction vertices rather than the fermion propagator. We show that removing this cutoff requires only the local subtractions expected from one-loop power counting, and construct a consistent complex fermion weight, including in topologically nontrivial backgrounds. At fixed bosonic lattice spacing and finite spacetime volume, the resulting bosonic functional integral is finite and exactly gauge invariant under the stated smoothness conditions. The construction provides a finite-regulator Standard Model formulation retaining the physical structure of continuum chiral fermions. Appendix F.5 establishes reflection positivity for a variant reconstruction at zero Yukawa coupling and zero theta. The bosonic continuum limit remains open.

Extended Local Infrared Cutoff for the Holographic Density

We propose an extended local infrared cutoff for the holographic density that leads to linear cosmological equations and gives exact analytical solutions. The model allows to remove the residual matter and radiation-like terms of the local construction based on $H$ and $\dot{H}$, resulting in a clear separation between the standard cosmological fluids and the holographic sector. The homogeneous solution generates characteristic modes that give rise to different cosmological behaviors. The extension includes derivatives up to third order, where two of the characteristic modes can modify the pre-recombination expansion and reduce the sound horizon while remaining subdominant at BBN. A slightly phantom mode provides an additional late-time geometrical freedom that can further increase the CMB-compatible value of $H_0$. Optimizations using BAO constraints yield values of $H_0$ in the approximate range $70.5-72.4\ {\rm km\;s^{-1}\;Mpc^{-1}}$.
