Continuous spectrum-shrinking maps between finite-dimensional power-associative algebras

Abstract

For finite-dimensional complex power-associative algebras $\mathcal{A}$ and $\mathcal{B}$, each equipped with its unique Hausdorff vector topology, we characterize continuous spectrum-shrinking maps $ϕ:\mathcal{A}\to\mathcal{B}$, i.e. maps satisfying $\mathrm{sp}_{\mathcal{B}}(ϕ(x)) \subseteq\mathrm{sp}_{\mathcal{A}}(x)$ for all $x\in\mathcal{A}$. The spectrum of an element is the zero set of its minimal polynomial, computed in the unitization for nonunital algebras. No such map exists when $\mathcal{A}$ is unital and $\mathcal{B}$ is nonunital. Otherwise, we symmetrize both products by setting $x\circ y:=\tfrac{1}{2}(xy+yx)$ and factor out the nilradicals to obtain semisimple Jordan quotients. We prove that a continuous map $ϕ$ is spectrum-shrinking precisely when, for every $x\in\mathcal{A}$, Jacobson's generic minimal polynomials of the simple quotient coordinates of $ϕ(x)$ are products of fixed nonnegative integer powers of those of $x$, with an additional fixed monomial factor allowed when $\mathcal{A}$ is nonunital. Comparing degrees gives linear Diophantine equations characterizing existence, and every nonnegative integer solution is realized by a polynomial spectrum-shrinking map. Spectrum preservation, meaning equality of spectra, is equivalent to additional positivity conditions. We also determine when every continuous spectrum-shrinking map preserves spectra and show that every continuous map $f:\mathcal{A}\to\mathbb{C}$ with $f(x)\in\mathrm{sp}_{\mathcal{A}}(x)$ for all $x\in\mathcal{A}$ is $\mathbb{C}$-linear and satisfies $f(x\circ y)=f(x)f(y)$ for all $x,y\in\mathcal{A}$.

Central series of cocommutative Hopf braces

By extending some classical results known for groups and skew braces, we define and investigate central series of cocommutative Hopf braces. Both left and right central series are defined using a $\star$-product that measures the difference between the two algebra operations, and naturally leads to introducing the notions of socle and of annihilator of a cocommutative Hopf brace. We characterize the central extensions relative to the subcategories of cocommutative Hopf algebras and of commutative and cocommutative Hopf algebras, respectively. Since the category of cocommutative Hopf braces is semi-abelian and it has enough projectives with respect to the class of cleft extensions, one can then establish suitable Hopf formulae for their homology. These are expressed in terms of the corresponding notions of relative commutators of cocommutative Hopf braces. In particular, the one relative to the subcategory of commutative and cocommutative Hopf algebras turns out to be the Huq commutator.

Commutative algebras satisfying univariate identities with vanishing Peirce polynomial

This paper introduces and studies $(2,3)$-palintropic algebras, a class of commutative algebras defined by the identity $(x^{2})^3 - (x^{3})^2 = 0$. This specific relation is the simplest generator of the $2$-dimensional space of minimal-degree evanescent identities in degree $6$, and encompasses several well-studied structures, including Jordan and medial algebras. The primary motivation for investigating these algebras lies in their trivial Peirce polynomials, which removes a priori restrictions on the spectrum of the multiplication operator associated with an idempotent. This paper reviews and further develops the theory of Peirce operators, Peirce polynomials, and second-order linearizations. It shows that despite the triviality of the Peirce polynomial, any idempotent $c$ admits well-behaved, explicit fusion rules for multiplication between its $λ$-Peirce spaces for $λ\neq \tfrac{1}{2}$. Furthermore, multiplication by a nonsingular idempotent is an algebra homomorphism. Finally, there are given concrete examples of $(2,3)$-palintropic algebras, together with applications of these algebraic structures to commutative polynomial maps.

Regular Sublattices, O Closed Ideals and Dedekind MacNeille Completions

We study regular sublattices of lattices that satisfy the Join-Infinite Distributive Law (JID) under Dedekind MacNeille completion. Using order convergence, we identify the lattice of O-closed ideals with Crawleys completion, and compare it with the Dedekind MacNeille completion. When DM(L) satisfies (JID), this comparison yields extension results for lattice homomorphisms. In particular, if Y is a regular sublattice of a complete lattice L, and L and DM(Y) satisfy (JID), then the canonical extension lattice-embeds DM(Y) into L with join-regular image. We also give a sharp finite-dimensional obstruction: there exists an infinitely distributive regular sublattice of R3 whose Dedekind MacNeille completion is not distributive, and therefore cannot be lattice embedded in R3. In contrast, we prove that the inclusion of every join-regular sublattice of R2 with a least and a greatest element extends canonically to a lattice embedding of its MacNeille completion into R2.
