Spontaneous Decay of High Energy Composite Fermions
Abstract
An electron, when added to a fractional quantum Hall fluid, famously splits into fractionally charged composite-fermion quasiparticles. We show here that a high energy composite fermion carrying a fractional charge decays into a collection of particles, including quasiparticles, quasiholes, and even whole electrons.
