Exploring topological features of a complex network of prime factors and composite numbers

Abstract

Prime numbers are mathematical concepts of particular interest because of their relative rarity among integers, as well as the relative unpredictability of their occurrence and density along the integer sequence. They constitute the building blocks of all other composite numbers, giving rise to the interesting and important concept of prime factorization, a process guaranteed by the fundamental theorem of arithmetic. Among the several works that have been reported about prime numbers and their interrelationship with composite numbers, some have considered derived graphs and/or networks. In this paper, we derive some topological features of a bipartite complex network of prime factors and composite numbers. More specifically, we prove mathematically that the network's diameter is exactly five regardless of the number of nodes. In particular, we show that certain nontrivial sub-networks have minimal diameter equal to four, which is, again, independent of the number of nodes as long as the network is large enough. The last shows that this network is of small-world type. We also characterize exactly the number of boundary nodes in the network and present a couple of algorithms to identify the most important, relevant, influential, or central nodes of the network. Finally, we focus on the computation of the information dimensions on the basis of Shannon and Tsallis entropies of the studied complex network. The results show both decreasing as the number of nodes increases. Furthermore, both entropies indicate that box coverings at the diameters \(\varepsilon=[3,4]\), group nodes into roughly the same number of boxes, independent of the number of nodes in the network.

Coefficient choice in Galois-ring lifts of APN permutations: sharp unit-direction spectra and one-term optimal lifts

Permutation polynomials over the Galois ring $\mathrm{GR}(2^k,m)$ are nonlinear components for symmetric primitives that add keys in the ring, as in secure computation modulo $2^k$. Rønjom and Sandrib showed that their differential uniformity is at least $2q^{k-1}$, where $q=2^m$. For the class studied here it is attained on top-layer differences, while almost all differences are units. We ask how small the difference table can be on unit differences when the residue permutation is fixed and only higher coefficient digits of its lift are chosen. Let $m\ge5$ be odd, $k\ge3$, and let $p$ be a reduced quadratic almost perfect nonlinear (APN) permutation of $\mathbb{F}_q$ whose derivative is nowhere zero and two-to-one. Over all lifts of $p$, the least possible maximum on unit differences is $q$ or $2q$, decided by two invariants of $p$ and the level $k$. We describe every lift attaining it and show that the coefficients modulo $8$ decide optimality at every level. For every odd $m\ge5$, residue permutations with at most $16$ monomials attain $q$ after one $2$-adic digit of one coefficient of the natural lift is changed. For an explicit infinite family, one added monomial lowers the maximum on unit differences from $4q$, or from at least $q^2$, to $2q$ at every level without raising the degree. Under a uniform starting state and independent uniform round keys, valuation preservation yields layerwise bounds for characteristics and two-round differentials that distinguish lifts with the same global uniformity. Core results are formalized in Lean 4.

Effective Chebotarev-Sato-Tate distribution for Abelian varieties with applications

We establish a uniform effective Chebotarev-Sato-Tate estimate for abelian varieties, conditional on the Mumford-Tate conjecture and the standard analytic conjectures for L-functions attached to the irreducible representations of the Chebotarev-Sato-Tate group. The proof uses spectral majorants and minorants of indicator functions. For regions whose boundaries have finite upper (d-1)-dimensional Minkowski content, the resulting exponent improves that in Bucur et al. (Theorem 1.1, 2024) whenever the Sato-Tate group has rank greater than one. We establish uniform estimates for regions and finite Galois extensions that vary with the counting parameter, and for prime-dependent regions satisfying an explicit variation condition. As an application, we obtain a conditional upper bound for the number of primes at which a weight-two newform with a quadratic coefficient field has a rational Fourier coefficient. We also formulate a discrepancy conjecture, motivated by a probabilistic model, that implies the asymptotic predicted by Murty (Conjecture 3.4, 1999).

Archimedean zeta integrals on $ {\rm SO}_{2n} \times {\rm GL}_n$ and $ {\rm Sp}_{2n} \times {\rm GL}_n $

We evaluate the archimedean Rankin-Selberg zeta integrals associated with spherical principal series representations of ${\rm SO}_{2n}(\mathbf R) \times {\rm GL}_n(\mathbf R) $ and $ {\rm Sp}_{2n}(\mathbf R) \times {\rm GL}_n(\mathbf R) $, where $ {\rm SO}_{2n} $ is split and $n\ge2$. We obtain explicit formulas expressing these integrals as quotients of products of gamma functions. Our approach uses Mellin-Barnes representations of spherical Whittaker functions, together with new integral identities for their Mellin transforms and transformations of Barnes integrals. In the even orthogonal case, we establish a recurrence in the rank and evaluate the integral by induction. The symplectic case then follows from an explicit identity relating the two families of zeta integrals.
