On Reed-Muller-Type Codes Associated to Proto-Exact Categories

Abstract

In this paper, we show how to associate a family of binary linear block codes to the class of admissibly cofinitary objects in any proto-exact category with rank function. This family naturally generalizes the well-studied family of binary Reed-Muller codes, and recovers this classical family for suitable choices of category. We also expand the list of known examples of proto-abelian categories to include incidence categories of posets. As an application of this result, we construct a binormal, combinatorial, proto-abelian category of Kashiwara crystals associated to any root system. In the case that the proto-exact category is a category of $\mathbb{F}_1$-representations of quivers, we show how to reconstruct our family via the language of algebraic geometry codes, in particular motivating an extension to arbitrary finite fields. We provide explicit computations of the dimension and minimum distance for select families of $\mathbb{F}_1$-representations of quivers.

Commutation of Smyth and Hoare Power Constructions in Well-filtered Dcpos

Prior work [11] established a commutativity result for the Hoare power construction and a modified version of the Smyth power construction consisting of strongly compact sets, which is defined for Us-admitting dcpos, where Us-admissability is well-filteredness with compact sets replaced by strongly compact sets. In this paper, we consider the Hoare power construction H and the Smyth power construction Q on the category WF of well-filtered dcpos with Scott-continuous maps. Actually, the functors H and Q can be extended to monads. We prove that H and Q commute, that is, HQ(L) is isomorphic to QH(L) for a well-filtered dcpo L, if and only if L satisfies a property similar to consonance that we call (KC) and the Scott topology coincides with the upper Vietoris topology on Q(L). We also investigate the Eilenberg-Moore category of the monad composed by H and Q under a distributive law on WF and characterize it to be a subcategory of the category Frm, which is composed of all frames and all frame homomorphisms.

A categorical formulation of Kraus' paradox

We give a categorical formulation of Kraus' "magic trick" for recovering information from truncated types. Rather than type theory, we work in Van den Berg-Moerdijk path categories with a univalent universe, and rather than propositional truncation we work with arbitrary cofibrations, which includes truncation as a special case. We show, using Kraus' argument that any cofibration with homogeneous domain is a monomorphism. We give some simple concrete examples in groupoids to illustrate the interaction between homogeneous types, cofibrations and univalent fibrations.

Partial actions of groups on monoidal categories

In this work, we introduce the notion of a partial action of a group on a strict monoidal category. We propose, in the context of Monoidal categories, new constructions analogous to those existing for partial group actions over an algebra such as the globalization, the subalgebra of partial invariants, and the partial smash product.
